I've seen that high smoke could be caused by wideband, but I don't know how much basis that has
I do think that’s a solid theory because wide band is so… it’s so complicated. High smoke (and high silver) breeders often advertise their cats as “from shaded lines,” which is further suggestive of a link…
But the high smoke cats are genetically solid and the wide band genes work with the agouti (tabby) gene. There are also other breeds where somw (silver self) and shaded/shell are present but don’t produce high smokes…
I wouldn’t be surprised if wide band is a factor, though. It’s all very interesting!
