Monuments on Marias
These images were made at Marias Pass in Montana; Glacier National Park lies to the north of where the Great Northern Railway and later Highway 2 were laid down over the pass.
In the first image we see the John F. Stevens Memorial Statue. Stevens was the civil engineer that "discovered" the pass over the great divide for the Great Northern (while the Blackfeet people used the pass for centuries prior to this). The first trains for the GN were rolling over the pass by 1893.
The second image shows the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Monument, adjacent to the statue. Built in 1931, this sixty-foot high obelisk celebrates Roosevelt's commitment to conservation.

Milky Way
Recently I traveled up to the Upper Peninsula during a new moon to shoot the Milky Way. All of these shots were made along Highway 2 adjacent to the north side of Lake Michigan.
The first image was made not long after sunset, and the effect is rather weak. This was taken just east of the Cut River Bridge (a historic structure built in 1947). The second photograph was made at a “scenic overlook” just west of Epoufette—it’s getting later now, and the galaxy is a bit more evident. And the final view was made a bit more west on Highway 2, and later of course, so the effect is getting stronger. This spot is five or six miles west of Epoufette, where the road is right adjacent to the water.
