Husband suggested going for a walk, but as he is on call duty this weekend, we had to stay close to home so he'd be able to get back in a reasonable amount of time.
Our walk today was basically the same trail we took on #hike3, but this time round we both used snow spikes, which was a huge improvement.
Down in the valley nearly all of the snow has melted, but in the shadowy spots on trail ice patches remain, which makes them trecherous to walk, especially on slopes.
This little ice sculpture caught my eye. A reminder that despite the sunshine it's still winter, and I probably shouldn't get my hopes up for spring weather just yet.
Man, I'm yearning to see some fresh green again!

#Hike5 I love that there are so many trails near my place in Albuquerque. The Bear Canyon Open Space was a nice and quiet area for a stroll. #52HikeChallenge2020 (at Arroyo del Oso, Albuquerque) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9fERgSlkKT/?igshid=1c5ua2pf09z7w
Today after work my mom picked me up and we walked around Fenton Park. It was windy and chilly, but it was a good walk and with the best company! Who do you like to hike with?? #hike5 for me and #hike4 for mom on our @52hikingchallenge #fentonpark #fentonmo #stlparks #stlpark #52hikechallenge #52hikingchallenge2020 #mopark #parksandrec #trees #sunset #soldiersmemorial #fallinsoldiers #memorial #fentonmemorials #fallensoldiersmemorial #hikingambassador #hikingstlouis #hikingstl #flags #worldtradecentermemorial #worldtradecentermemorialpark #pentagon #hikingwithmom #hikingwithmomma #fenton #americanflag #americanflags #missouri (at Fenton City Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9YF7PbjuA0/?igshid=16pjsx9o5zlty
I hiked Mission Peak today! 2,517 elevation! #hike5 done!!!✔ #52hikechallenge2019 The trail is 5.8 miles with an elevation gain of over 2,100ft. Talk about amazing views!!!😍 • So this morning I woke up and went to the gym. While driving there, I saw snow on most of the peaks!!! After I was done I rushed home because you know... "The mountains are calling and I must go!!!" • I'm so glad spontaneity kicked in! What a treat to get to witness snow on the peaks! I was told that this only happens once or twice a year! I also got to experience other extremes while hiking this peak, like sloppy and sticky mud. The kind of mud that almost pulls your hiking shoes off your feet!😯 But I also got to meet a new friend while hiking this trail! It's always nice to meet others who have a passion for hiking! Thanks again for the sweet photos and sweet company @rhekeips 🙌🏼😁 Hope to see you on the trails again someday! • • • • #breathelivetravel #52hikechallenge #jackies52hikechallenge2019 #nature #naturelover #naturelovers #instanature #naturephotography #nature_perfection #outdoorwomen #girlgetoutside #girlswhohike #outdoors #theoutbound #beautyeverywhere #wildkeepers #keepnaturewild #staywild #wander #wanderlust #california #californiadreamin #missionpeak #idhikethat #themountainsarecalling #imontopoftheworld #bayarea #sanfrancisco (at Mission Peak) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bthl5dtHql4/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1joo7kowlazim

#hike5 - Eagle Mountain Park
Date: February 3, 2018
Location: Eagle Mountain Park - Fort Worth, TX
Distance: 5.5 miles
Trails: All but purple and yellow, see this map for reference
Eagle Mountain Park is one of the locations in Fort Worth that I don't mind revisiting, especially if the weekend doesn't allow for an out of town adventure. My friend Nikki joined me for this hike and I was thankful to have someone along to chat with about nature, news, and pop culture.
This was the fourth time I was at Eagle Mountain Park, located on the east side of Eagle Mountain Lake, and I was expecting a familiar route with my friend, but we were constantly distracted by things we hadn't noticed before.
Was that log always there?
DId you ever notice that forest area?
Was that tree always down?
OOH, deer!
Oh, look at that bird! What kind of bird is that?
Rediscovering a familiar place is a treat and part of the reason these hikes are important to me. As we walked, we kept discovering things that went under the radar before and reminded me that I need to slow down and be a bit more observant. Nikki suggested we educate ourselves, so we are going to learn more about plant identification and various other information related to the ecology here in Texas.
Things to know about Eagle Mountain Park
There are hills, they're not terrible, but they are there so be aware
The trails wander between wooded and wide open areas, so you can find shade in the summer but always plan ahead with a hat, sunscreen, and water
Take the shoreline trail - it's beautiful and you usually can catch a nice breeze
If you want to avoid crowds, get there before 7:30am
This hike was especially refreshing, both mentally and physically, after a week of travel and getting back into the workflow. I'm thankful for good friends, good talks, and slowing down and seeing the little things in a familiar place. Happy trails!
We were cute yesterday 👍 Had a great trip through the snow and came back to a little treat on our car! #hike5 #52HikeChallange (at Mount Washington (Cascades))
