The man in this photo is a really nice guy and his name is Dave Walmsley he's the proud owner of the water taxi and Ponamu lodge. He and his wife also own and run the first DOC approved glamping site in NZ. When I met Dave on the lake front at hot water beach, Lake Tarawera he came up and was instantly friendly and kind with a genuine interest in what I was doing. When Dave found out about what I was doing he instantly said go take a look at my glamping site and go ahead and use the facilities. I of course politely said thanks Dave but I'm fine. #stupid So I go take a look and what I found was a luxury outdoor glamping facility thats of the highest quality with almost all the same luxuries as a hotel complete with a separate cooking facility with dining table and complete kitchen including fridge. This place is modern and amazing considering I walked for 2.5 hours to get here. Dave also runs the water taxi and can drop your bags here ready for your arrival, or you can get dropped in and picked up again when your ready to leave. The service Dave provides is outstanding he offered to drop me at the start of the track that goes from Lake Tarawera to lake Rotomahana so I could summit Mt Tarawera I'm so grateful for the ride it saved me about two hours.
