As someone who runs a YouTube channel about BL translated in Hindi and a writer who writes mostly queer content – I have wondered why queer media isn’t popular in India.
And when I asked my audience if they would like to see an Indian BL I saw a high positive response but some negative too and as someone who had 90% of her audience in India I wondered why people who were interested in BL would not want BL in their native language.
The response I got was Indian men are not that pretty [which homophobic much?, also racist because Indian men would mostly fall into the Caucasian category than Asian, expect the seven sisters territory].
But I knew from real life that wasn’t true. I have seen Indian men, regular Indian men, in college, look pretty.
And then, watching Jimin dance to Filter I realized.
It’s about the presentation, the effort put into things. These boys who are complaining about girls going crazy over Korean men and calling them slurs do not want to put effort into themselves but want women to go crazy over them.
