My most unwoke, problematic, irredeemable take is that yeah actually Sebastian and Ciel’s relationship is inherently erotic.

The idea that the often uncomfortable sexual undertones of Kuro are just “fanservice” undermines its place as a work gothic fiction where disturbed and uncomfortable sexual themes are common place. I’m not saying that Taboso is always successful or tasteful in her use of these themes but writing them off entirely only does a disservice to the narrative and limits the discussion of the text.

Media should make you uncomfortable, and so rather than trying to justify it, latch onto it and figure out how that plays into what the larger picture of what the text is trying to tell you.

Do you ever just, see the fandom's depiction of a dynamic and its painfully obvious that one is the favorite and the other exists solely to support the other character?

And any attempt at giving the second character personal thoughts, feelings, or fears, just circles back to making it about the fav character?

There's an evil sort of bent to his desires, you are just being nice. Trey thinks he's heard Azul say someone will take advantage of someone with your generous disposition. He never thought that person would be him, but he wants you in a way concerning to his reputation. You offer him a safe space to relax and he wants to do anything but. He wants to take you on the guest room couch so every time you invite over and someone else sits down there you feel a little burn in the back of your throat remembering how he made you feel.
