The fibrous tough cords of connective tissue making the bones and muscles meet are called tendons. Tendonitis is a condition relating to the inflammation of the tendon. The inflammation can also be on the tendon sheath, which is the area around which the tendon and muscle join together. One of the most prevalent causes of inflammation in the tendons is overuse due to recreational, occupational or athletic activities. Other factors which can account as risk factors for tendonitis include thermal injury to the tendons, smoking, certain antibiotics, repetitive movement, arthritis, obesity and diabetes.
