⭒ | on the 29th of june 2020 VIVID released their 2nd full length album U R MINE. almost a year long hiatus YURI finally returned and the girls returned as 5 for their biggest comeback to date HIP ! the album is another one that is considered one of SODA’s best works with tracks like ILLUSION , DAHLIA , IT HURTS E I E I O and SO GOOD . SODA also released their first official subunit track HAPPY NOW which they performed once as a special stage. throughout the era the girls promoted their track LUV U as a special stage alongside HIP ! and their intro track 24 HRS. the comeback was highly anticipated because of YURI’s return.

⭒| ABOUT THE TITLE TRACK “HIP”

“HIP” is a swaggering track that has a brassy take-down of those who have nasty words for VIVID. Having been written and produced by duo SoDa , the lyrics draw inspiration from the girls own experiences as idols, with several references to real life events and criticisms aimed at the group.The girls coolly sing and rap over a powerful, anthemic melody about how they’re so hip, and do not care about what others think because they are happy being the way that they are.

VIVID promoted for 4 weeks from the 21st of july 2020. this era was one of if not their strongest era in a long time. their energy was so fresh and new it was like they were reborn. the girls were glowing and their stage presence was undeniable. yuri’s return was highly anticipated so BRITES made sure that this era was a success and the girls could comeback with a bang.

‘UR MINE’ got a lot of praise for the diversity in sounds and the quality of production on each one.

‘UR MINE’ debuted at #3 on korean streaming sites and peaked at #7 on melon

‘HIP’ mv got 23.3 million views and 2.7 million likes in 24 hours

‘HIP’ received 7 music show wins and was an all kill (placed first on all music shows)

‘HIP’ debuted at #1 on all korean streaming sites and remained there for 2.5 weeks

‘HIP’ peaked at number 52 on the billboard top 100

The album was their second best selling album

the girls were very excited for this comeback because it was there first one with yuri after a year.

BRITES were so happy to see colourful summery VIVID again

yuri went viral on stan twt as “the girl with the pink hair”

the girls continued to do their behind the scenes vlogs each week of promotions on WEEKLY Vtalk

a photo of leo wearing jisung’s iconic supreme fruit shirt when going to the grocery store with sora circulated. some linked it to him and said they were dating whilst others pointed out that leo often shopped in the men’s section so it could just be her own shirt.

(it was jisung’s she didn’t think before walking out the door)

the group performed at KCON:tact, Dream Concert and SORIBADA

sisi and sora trended in korea for their visuals after SORIBADA.

sisi and felix posted sunshine sibling selfies at SORIBADA and basically broke the internet.

the girls released a total of 4 music videos for the group tracks on the album including hip, nobody like u, 24 hrs and bored.

‘24 hrs’ was a self made mv which was filmed backstage at one of their first music shows when the girls were bored. it was completely spontaneous and done by themselves with yuri editing the video. (insp.)

‘nobody like u’ was filmed in the dorms and the cube building. huge girlfriend vibes. it was very cute and sweet, leo looked especially adorable. (insp.)

‘bored’ was a compilation of clips of the girls being hyper and or sleepy during promotions. it included clips of members lip syncing while sitting next to a member taking a nap. or them goofing around behind the scenes at various schedules. it was the last mv to drop and wrapped up the era perfectly. the girls wrote that even though they were tired they were happy to be performing again and thanked BRITES for making the era so special. the girls worked a lot this era but they all were glowing but it was worth it.

a happy glowing era and definitely one of my favs.
