OPLA Cast | SEASON 2
Mark Harelik (DR HIRILUK) gives a speech After Filming His Last Scene for ONE PIECE Season 2

Tony Tony Chopper.
TBH I think the Drum kingdom adaptation is the best arc we had on OPLA so far. It’s good they learnt from their mistakes in s1, because 3 episodes allowed for a sufficient amount of time to cover it AND to give a good finale to the season.
Indeed, it's the first arc in which inner tension amongst the crew is explored, as they are all worried for Nami. It gives the arc a darker setting, with more realistic worries : they had disagreement before, but this time it's not about defeating pirates or assassins coming after them, it's about health for one of them. It shows through Luffy lashing out at the villagers before Vivi stops him, it's Usopp snapping at Zoro for worrying and Sanji telling Nami about his sick mom when he was young. Combined to the very sad backstory of Chopper, it really managed to create a beautiful and bittersweet arc.
Kudos to the actors of course, including Wapol, Kureha and Hiriluk who were absolutely charismatic & perfect : Wapol is even more stupidly terrifying than in the manga, Kureha is more impressive and Hiriluk more touching & inspiring.
They even managed to include a "final battle" part which was way better than Arlong Park in S1 : the transformed army eaten by Wapol, Zoro, Kureha and Usopp helping the civilians, Luffy & Vivi vs Wapol, Chopper & Sanji vs the henchmen. It made for a great finale, along with the reveal for Crocodile and Nico Robin.
It makes me hopeful for a good adaptation for Alabasta in s3 !
I hate to say I just wanted to draw Hiriluk and Yorki fighting.

OPLA episode 7: did I cry? Yes I did. Also Chopper's doctor parents were great!
I've always been fairly neutral on Hiriluk. I really like what he represents thematically but his behavior as a doctor could be exasperating.
So it's surprising that I really liked him in the live action. I think this comes down to three things:
The set of his house was amazing!
More focus on his chemical experiments
Gradually looking more ill as the episode went on; I haven't watched the anime in years but this sense of impending illness gave his whole arc a weight I didn't remember
On that, and less about the character, but the question of what to do with a sick nation state felt strikingly topical. When a country is ill under a tyrant how do you heal it?
Also really liked Kureha, but always liked her. Both actors for those two were really amazing imo.
Oh. Yeah. Not a fan of human form Chopper. Something about his face is weird too me, but Dalton I did not mind. Chopper's other forms will be interesting to see.
