I know like four non binary characters in media and two of them are from pjo
I think it's time to put this out there :3
Best Queer Rep. In The RRverse
Emmie & Jo (do not separate <3) (Lesbians)
Reyna Avila Rameriz-Arelleno (Aromantic)
Alex Fierro (Genderfluid/Trans)
Magnus Chase (Pansexual)
Piper McLean (Sapphic)
Lavinia Asimov (Lesbian)
Hiss-Majesty (Nonbinary)
Will Solace (Gay)
EDIT:
To clear up confusion, I left off Apollo & Nico because
1) Apollo would SLAUGHTER everybody on this poll because He Is The Queer Rep and
2) Nico is very very popular and the poll would be rigged if I put him in, giving him a very unfair advantage over Every Other Very Very Good Queer Rep we have here.
Also apparently Reyna is AlloAce instead of Aro...huh. To me she gave off some strong Aro vibes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, I understand Will Solace is Bisexual in TSATS- however, in as few words as possible, there are so many retcons in TSATS that contradicted canon, so I do not see TSATS as canon. Reasons why are a whole essay that I do not want to write.
Because of this, I still see Will as Gay, as do many others in this fandom. There is absolutely no disrespect intended from this-remember, this is a fictional book series about fictional characters. We are allowed to interpret characters in different ways, and I just so happen to interpret Will as Gay.
Please do not get upset over this, all character interpretations are just as valid as yours. Thank you.
Thinking about lil Will getting to camp for the first time.
Idk how long it mightve been before he was claimed, could be immediately, maybe a couple weeks-(I always see Apollo kids being claimed the quickest, likely as dramaticly as possible knowing Apollo fhdh)
But just thinking about him being unsure of his place in the Apollo cabin, especially before figuring out his healing abilities.
Not just cause he feels out of place, but the fact he's away from his mom, his still learning about being a demigod.
And him constantly beating himself up over not being able to do the same things as his siblings.
And then he works in the infirmary with Michael the first time and it just clicks. Like he's been doing it his whole life.
But it's that prideful look in Michael's eyes that that makes him feel so much more sure of his place in the infirmary. The fact that Michael tells Lee how well Will did with a gleam in his eyes. Making seem a lot more incredible then Will thought it was.
It just feels right.
Then he goes through his first battle, and he looses Lee and likely his own patients. Maybe even his first lost patient. And he again feels out of place, like he isn't doing enough.
But again. There's Michael, encouraging him, reminding him he did more than enough.
Telling him Lee would be proud.
Only for a year later for him to loose him and so many more too.
But this time he doesn't have time to question himself. So he works. He does the one thing he knows he can do.
And he feels out of place when he can't be useful enough. Even looking at himself in distain in BOO when mentioning he's only a healer. Chiron tries to encourage him, but really what he says in a way that I think just unintentionally encourages Will's view of having to be useful.
When he feels he has no control he again focuses on the work. Austin and Kayla get taken and he has to bury his worry to care for everyone else.
He's willing to go where he knows he'll be practically dieing for whole time, just for someone he loves, again to make sure he's needed, that he's useful even if it kills him. Especially for someone he cares so much about.
I think that's why I love his interactions with Hiss-Majesty.
Here was a Trog who was trying to find their place. Who was figuring themselves out(which- sure I can also go into the metaphors for figuring out your identity as a queer person that I'm sure did not help Will's struggles with finding where he fits-)
And I honestly think that's why Will clicked with them so easily. He looked at Hiss-Majesty and was seeing himself as a little kid again.
And Hiss-Majesty looks at Will the same way he had to Michael. Despite his own struggles, he's able to be to another what Michael was for him.
I love their relationship so much. Hiss-Majesty my beloved.
Will might be still working through his feelings of inadequacy and fitting the high standard he sets for himself. But I do think his interactions with Hiss-Majesty helped him so much.
ive only known Hiss-majesty for a couple chapters but if anything ever happens to them I swear I will protect them with my LIFE-
some random work doodles i did today, the first one being based on that epcot tiktok sound. also i love Hiss-Majesty so much if anything happens to them i will maim and kill someone dead
With the announcement of tsats sequel I need to remind y'all-
I would die for Hiss-Majesty.
