Why's there so much emphasis on the "flapper" uniform of the 1920s? I think the 1920s had a great aesthetic, but frankly, the flapper outfits were the worst fucking part of the Jazz Age fashion in my opinion. They were tacky and had tassels n' shit. I'm more interested in the everyday clothing of the era, but it's so hard to find through all the shitty flapper Halloween costumes. Why is this? The 1920s silhouette was long, thin, and androgynous- you had stuff like collared shirts for women, cool, boxy hats (not just the cloche! I hate cloches), PANTS (!!), and some of these really beautiful longline cardigans and shirts. The lingerie was so pretty and the coats were crazy and ostentatious and the prints were loud. The prints and the cut of stuff was super East Asian influenced, and I don't know how nobody ever manages to bring that up. Like wtf, are we not gonna talk about those simplistic geometric Asian patterns that ruled Art Nouveau and the rising popularity of silk kimonos that rich ladies wore around the house? And not even that, like, the housewife clothing of the era is so hard to find, but so cute. Chanel designed a couple of really cute pink housedresses made of wool, and ladies would wear shawls wrapped around their shoulders, and it was so cute. I love everyday 1920s clothes. I'm so mad.
