Working on my design for the Tumblr Dress for @dashcon-two
Created a vision board for the design. I have other inspirations and a Pinterest board, but this seemed fun. Wish me luck!

Working on my design for the Tumblr Dress for @dashcon-two
Created a vision board for the design. I have other inspirations and a Pinterest board, but this seemed fun. Wish me luck!
In 2010, at the height of Tumblr's Fandom experience, I created the Tumblr dress to wear to what was then, Denver Comic Con. It's not called that anymore, and #superwholock is no longer the megalithe of content it used to be. But regardless, I created a dress based on Tumblr to cosplay the experience of sharing fandom and tags with people. The white fabric of the dress originally was white. I brought fabric pens for people to add their favorite tags and share their account names with me by writing them all over the dress. It was incredible! I posed for pictures with a lot of Loki cosplayers.
So here we are, also in 2025, and my bestie and I hear that Dashcon 2.0 might happen again. And of course, we immediately think of the Tumblr dress and how cool it would be to make a newer version, one that celebrates Tumblr now. She is planning to make an AO3 dress to go with me.
I am very excited to start this new project and share the journey along the way. Enjoy!!
I am working on undergarments for the #tumblrdress, and I wanted to share some pictures of my chemise. This layer is worn closest to the skin and is made out of an old bed shirt and lingerie lace. It is worn under the corset and protects the skin as well as protects the corset and outer fabrics from sweat.
Still testing fabric swatches for the Tumblr cosplay gown. These are silk swatches from silkbaron. Which one do you like best?
Got a petticoat put together. It isn't hemmed or trimmed, but it's a start. It needs a good pressing too. I used poly taffeta from Fabric Wholesale Direct. It's one of my favorite budget linings and petticoat materials. It has a great body and stiffness. Im also experimenting with the shape of my hoop skirt. I added extra volume in the petticoat I the back panel for an elliptical hoop if needed.
Obviously, this is using a lot of other people's art, but this is just a concept for planning out what I would like to do for the front panel of my Tumblr dress. If you are one of these artists, please let me know so I can credit you.
There will be other popular posts and fandoms on the skirt, but I wanted to have some visuals to make sure what I was thinking in my head would work.
I have ordered blue fabric, and it's very close to Tumblr blue but not perfect. I'll post more about it when it comes in a few days. Im working on drafting a pattern tonight and fitting it as well.
The pom pom trim for Tumblr arrived today. I got 15 yards, and I hope that's enough. If I need more, I should be able to get it. The pom poms are meant to represent the ball pit balls from the first dash con and I think they are perfect!!
Did some sketching for my #tumblrcosplay for @dashcon-two. My cosplay partner is creating and AO3 gown to partner with me and we are so excited about these gowns!
