176. Hufflepuffs are expected to get jobs such as healers and herbologists because “they’re too soft to do anything else” or “They only care about looking after things” and although this may be true in some cases, the reality of it all is that Hufflepuffs make badass aurors and hit-wizards, they’re loyal and dedicated af and let me tell you they have a mean aim with spells.

How did you become a hit witch?
I applied showed them my N.E.W.Ts and did an interview and a practical. How the fuck do you think I became one.
Okay but what would happen if you went out with an Auror AND a Hit Wizard?
Hm.
Well, either the Hit Wizard and I would get in a fight and the Auror would give the Hit Wizard a dressing down for attacking a Ministry employee in public, and give me one for purposely provoking the Hit Wizard by using that voice.
Or, we’d team up to see how quickly we could take down the Auror.
More often, however, those two bastards’ll team up and see how long I can evade and/or fight them off. I think the longest one started around eleven at night and ended around six-thirty the next morning when I ‘surrendered’ to remind them both that all three of us had to be at work in thirty minutes.
That’s all that matters in the end. Who is to rule.
It’s January — the year is 1978. Voldemort has quickly risen to power amongst his like-minded, socially elite following of blood purists and, in his pursuit of power, has not been shy about his intended plans to take over the Ministry and vanquish muggle-borns. The Ministry however has chosen to repress Voldemort’s increasing threats from the people; feeling they have sound control over the situation, they do not want to instill any unnecessary fear or disrupt the flow of society. In The Ministry’s feeble attempts to quiet Voldemort however, they failed to realize they lost the people’s peace of mind. Fueled by friction, hatred, and many unanswered questions—members of the Wizarding Community everywhere are on edge. With a drastic increase in barbaric murders and unsolved disappearances strung out over the course of the last few months—surrounded by questionable methods and inhumane ideologies—it is becoming evident there will only be more victims and bloodshed.
All Fall DOWN.

Alastor Gamboil- a Hit Wizard from an aside Daily Prophet thing JKR wrote back in the 90s. He wrote a help wanted ad for the hit wizards- and it’s a hot mess. Like one of the ‘perks of the job’ listed is a reserve bed at St Mungos...
So, at first I thought would be a doofus- but then I started thinking about someone who would be in charge of hit wizards- and thought 'you know what? maybe he's not a doofus. He's just a bit of a doofus at trying to get people to be excited about a crap job.' So i looked at lots of british cops and just went from there with his look. Middleaged cop-type who knows how to do his job- and doesn't know the first thing about being upbeat about the benefits of the crap job opening- so instead just goes with 'and you'll have a bed on reserve at st mungos!'

INDIVIDUALLY WE ARE ONE DROP, BUT TOGETHER WE ARE THE OCEAN.
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement is located on Level Two of the British Ministry of Magic in London, England. The Department encompasses several offices, including that of the Aurors, the Magical Law Enforcement Squad, the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells, the Improper Use of Magic Office, and the Wizengamot. The newly-established NEAT Task Force also calls Level Two home. Protecting the masses of magical people and creatures is no easy task, but is the responsibility of the following:
The Magical Law Enforcement Squad is akin to the police of the magical world. They enforce the law of the Wizengamot and Ministry on a day-to-day basis and are largely responsible for keeping the streets safe.
The Hit Wizards are a specially trained collection of witches and wizards who undergo vigorous and lengthy training in physical and psychological defence. They are chosen from the Magical Law Enforcement Squad for specific talents and strengths which make them assets to the Hit Wizard teams. They are who the Ministry calls upon to deal with the most dangerous of threats. Though they must first prove themselves within the MLES, they are rumoured to have a starting salary of seven hundred Galleons per month and a permanent bed at the ready in St Mungo’s.
The Auror Office houses an equally elite group of witches and wizards trained extensively in managing, mitigating, controlling and eradicating dark magics, and arresting or otherwise incapacitating those who use them. Aurors can be promoted from within the MLES, but it is preferable that they apply for the Auror Academy instead. Only those with exemplary N.E.W.T.s, resumes, and test results are considered for the Academy. Training takes place over two exhaustive years of year-round, six-days-per-week lessons (both at theory and hands-on) at the Academy and a third year as a ‘Junior Auror’. Those who survive as an Auror for long enough may be promoted to Senior Auror.
The background and training required to be an Auror means they are better suited to matters involving dark magic and those who use it. It is not unheard of to have both a Hit Wizard and an Auror paired together for a given task, but generally, the Aurors field all matters of dark magic, the Hit Wizards all matters of particular importance or risk involving any magics save for those of dark intent, and the MLES takes care of the rest. There may be animosity between offices at times-- especially when a case of interest is “upgraded” from one office to another-- but they work largely as a cohesive unit.
The Non-Magical Emergencies and Threats (N.E.A.T.) Task Force is a new umbrella of law enforcement launched by the Ministry of Magic in response to a technological virus leak. While the Aurors and Hit Wizards have their respective strengths and responsibilities, it is the N.E.A.T.s who manage any and all non-magical hiccups, as the name suggests. This Task Force is controlled by the Wizengamot directly and not the Head of the DMLE, whom the rest of the offices report to. As they are a new Task Force whose rules and regulations have yet to be established, their guidelines for arrest, interrogation, detainment and charges are more akin to suggestions than regulations.
