“braincloud 2120″ by Cat Soup
To call a Cat Soup project a “beat tape” is to do it a disservice. The Team Sesh guys hardly even produce for rappers like that anymore, and when they do, it’s only cause they’re making money hand over first selling leases to their ravenous fans. Rather, the main draw with these guys is themselves and their own solo music. It’s a lot of poppin’ rappers that aren’t putting nearly enough effort into their songs to warrant wasting a finely crafted instrumental such as those on “braincloud 2120″. These guys are better off standing on their own as creatives, so that’s exactly what they do.

“disruption” by ghost/\/ghoul & Cat Soup
With five projects in the last two months, ghost/\/ghoul’s been on a creative tear like we haven’t seen from a Team Sesh artist in a minute. The crew’s known to drop at that kind of rate as a collective, but for just one member to put out that much music in such a short amount of time is practically unheard. “disruption” with Cat Soup is my personal favorite out of the handful, but there’s something for everybody who can respect a quality Team Sesh instrumental album.

“NoRedeemingQualities” by Bones
For those who value true independence over major label funded rap acts, Bones is one of the last “true” underground artists left. While others are looking for ways to make the jump to the mainstream and get big time cosigns, the Team Sesh founder seems perfectly content in his own under-the-surface niche. That’s not to say his approach is best suited to everyone else, but if you’re the type who hates when your favorite artist “sells out”, then Bones is exactly the type of guy you’ve gotta appreciate.
