Man, I went on kind of an emotional journey with this piece. I started out all excited with the sketch, got concerned I'd blow it on the lines, and basically had to fight my own attention span to get those done. Then I messed with the faces for longer than strictly necessary. Then I got all indecisive on the colours. Then I accidentally put a Hard Mix layer over them... and I really liked the look of it. I was still kind of unsure, but I kept with it, and I think it was a really good choice in the end. Actually, I think I just had indecision on almost every part of the process, which made it hard to keep going on something I was initially super excited to get done. It makes me not know if I just like it because I worked hard on it and I'm satisfied about finishing, or if I'll still like it tomorrow or a week from now. Basically, I can't just let myself be happy? And frankly that's kinda rude? me @ me just let yourself like things pls. I think it's partly because this pair of OCs means a great deal to me, so I want to do them justice, on top of working with a more complex pose than I'm used to (see: bodies interacting, torsos obscured).
Sketch based on this post by divinedorothy. It just seemed like the sort of thing Jared might say.
Disclaimer: Jared's words do not represent the artist's views on sexuality. Or his own views, once he's sobered up.
I drew this sketch of Corvin for an ask on my personal blog, but I'm actually really pleased with it so I'm posting it here too.
20-29 for corvin
Still answering old asks. This was for an OC meme.
20: What’s your OCs favorite kind of pizza?
I wanna say pepperoni but I feel like there’s a chance I’ve said differently in the past. Can I just decide he goes through pizza topping phases?
(To expand on this: sometimes he orders takeaway pizza and the topping will be something fairly simple like pepperoni and it will be a sort of guilty pleasure/I-cannot-be-arsed-to-cook food. Sometimes (when he has the free time) he will make his own pizza, and the topping will be far more elaborate and involve several different things, one of which will probably still be pepperoni.)
21: Who is your OCs best friend?
His cousin, Demi. They were closer a few years ago (were basically BFFS 4EVER during their teenage years, during which time they got into all sorts of trouble) but are still close enough that they can rely on each other in times of need without question. At least at the start of the story. Then PLOT HAPPENS.
22: Has your OC ever killed someone?
Nope.
23: Whats your OCs biggest secret?
Not really sure. Some of the various not-very-legal escapades he’s got up to with Demi might count. (At one point it would have been his sexuality, but he’s been out for a few years by the time the story starts.)
24: What does your OC smell like?
Oh god I don’t know what do dudes even smell like. Dude smell.
More seriously (now that I’ve actually thought about it) probably men’s deodorant (I can’t quite bring myself to make him use Lynx/Axe, but I don’t know any other men’s brands) and food from the diner he works at.
25: What time of year does your OC prefer?
Spring.
26: Is your OC a human or an animal? (or something else idk)
He’s a human. (Though his design and personality were inspired by magpies.)
27: What languages does your OC speak?
English. A little French - basically what he can remember from high school, so not very much.
28: Does your OC like anime?
Corvin is fairly indifferent to anime. There are probably some shows he likes but I don’t think he’d be heavily involved in the fandoms or, like, anime fan culture as a general thing. (Very tempted to give him a secret love of, like, Fruits Basket or something.)
29: Can your OC swim?
He manages to avoid drowning xD probably doesn’t swim on a regular basis but at least knows how to.
hexephra replied to your post:Okay so I’ve finished the drawings I was working... coooooooooorvinnnnnnnnn
But I literally just drew him - oh who am I kidding I'm never not happy drawing Corvin. Will get on that. :)
