Got nostalgic today and remembered the excellent AU fanfiction that is His Name was Billy Mischief by @mairzymarzipan ​

So I decided to try and draw the cover image in my own style

I was going to write a post that was like 'hnwbm rewrite but Ricky is trans' as a joke on the word doll, but honestly if i rewrote it Billy would be trans and he's be dating Gus

the endgame for all my protags seems to be ‘becomes foster parent to some needy child’

i mean going as far back as Billy, he did that

Phillip’s original story had him taking care of a little girl, and in maguffins he adopts another hat kid

and ofc Nathanael adopts an entire freaking country

ok so i finally decided not to make Maria Jewish, but not for the reason I thought I would

It’s bc what halfae are.  halfae are people, or animals, that get possessed by dords just b4 they’re born and the two souls mix and form a new personality.  ofc this person has magical powers throughout their life.

dords are sometimes called angels, fairies, or demons.

aaaaand, idk, just sort of implying that a Jewish person might be a demon is sort, of a bad idea?

i think that, when i talk about halfae, i’m just going to make sure not to talk about other people’s religions.

and yes, i know i’m not christian, but i grew up in a v christian influenced household so like, i feel more comf possibly insulting christianity than like, any other religion

and yes, i know i’ve said in the past that Billy is Jewish...i was younger then and stupid.  i don’t have to repeat my mistakes once I know they’re mistakes.

i’m sure i can fit  Jewish rep in my other stories.  in anything, i can still research it, bc i do what i want, regardless of what i’m writing.

honestly idk why i keep forgetting to write Hilda with glasses.  I wear.  Glasses.  I know glasses.  Glasses should come as second nature to me.

Same with Gus, tho.  He was supposed to have glasses but I never???  Mentioned them???  Except that one time?

Glasses are my writer’s bane, for some reason.

My OCs are usually isolated in some way.  This goes like, way back.  Billy had a lot of people who immediately liked him and wanted to be his friend, but he was, in the fic, the only one of his kind.  He had to hide what he was even though he didn’t like that.  He got careless with it.  And when a lot of people did find out what he truly was, he was separated, physically and mentally, from all people.  He was punished, because of what he truly, truly was.

In a way it was me telling the story of what I always thought would happen to me.  That if people found out who I was, who I really, really was, I would become more isolated than I ever had been before.  

The ironic thing was, while I was wearing a mask, that was the most isolating thing for me.

That’s what the character of Winnie is for, developed a few years later, when I knew myself a little better.  Connecting, truly connecting with people for Winnie is a Herculean task.  It’s possible he like, doesn’t even know who his true self is, because he has it buried so deep.
