We are slowly getting the lovely new house sorted. it is absolutely WONDERFUL! We all love it so much and we have loads more room, including a storeroom! I feel very fancy having a store room for all our baking bits instead of boxes all over the kitchen LOL Admittedly the store room is currently filled with boxes LOL But it'll be fab when it's all ready. Look, I made a birthday cake.

Week 150: Black forest cake ..................................................................................... I remember my first encounter with snow fondly (the real stuff too, not from snow machines like how they do it in the tropics). Winter was creeping into the quiet town of Oxford, and one night, it started snowing. As I was staying at the top floor of the dormitory, with a roof window, I was the first amongst my friends to know. 5 minutes later, after a flurry of calls, we were all outside with woolly jackets over our PJs, throwing snow balls at one another. . Cold aside, winter in Oxford is gorgeous. The gardens, and the dreaming spires all covered in powdery white. I missed those days. . And so I was hoping to capture a bit of those winter memories with this Christmas bake for a friends-get-together last weekend. The pine forest chocolate collar idea came to me as I was watching reruns of #GBBO (thank you, @janebbakes 😅). Whole Wheat Banana Bread with Butter and Cinnamon Milk. This quick bread has 50/50 of whole wheat flour and unbleached AP flour, brown sugar and heavy on the ripe bananas. It has a crispy Turbinado Sugar topping. This recipe came from King Arthur Baking Company Baker's Companion Book. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope your weekend has been a safe one, and that we all have reflected on the sacrifice that some gave all so that we can do the things we do. Although I am happy with my execution of this Swiss Buttercream, I am not thrilled with the color. My intention was to have purple colored frosting on these vanilla cupcakes. I guess I didn't have enough coloring to counter the natural yellow of the buttercream. They still taste amazing and the silky texture coats your entire mouth with flavor. Any colored buttercream is still better than no buttercream! Lol. Stay safe everyone!
