Experiment 051
Hocker
Primary function: To spit acidic saliva
He is designed to spit acidic saliva that can eat through solid matter.
One true place: With Mrs. Hasagawa as one of her "cats"
Stool in elm and walnut.
Experiment Reviews: Hocker
A nasty little alien for my next cringe review~
Overview:
Hocker is one of Mrs. Hasagawa’s many so-called “cats”-experiments she found and took in believing they were cats in need of a home. While obviously not cats, the experiments she took in love her all the same, and Hasagawa considers them her ohana.
Design:
Hocker has a fun design; he’s tiny, his color palette is striking, he has stubby little hands, and all around he looks like a little mutated shrew. I love him. 10/10.
Really though-Hocker’s one of the best designs of the cats; his bright green and dark red and yellow palette is very fun and nicely echoes his power, and although his official art is very cute, him in the show...is not.
Hocker’s design is good in that it’s versatile; he can quickly turn from a cute, if not slightly odd looking experiment into...the picture I placed here. He has a habit of baring his teeth for his power, which can easily make him look much more intimidating than his official artwork would imply. Funnily enough, he has a slight resemblance to Hammerface, both having the same general head shape and small ears.
Powers:
(I apologize but I am NOT putting up a picture of Hocker spewing acidic spit-the shots I found were a little much to put here. Also this pose is very funny to me)
Hocker is designed to spit acidic saliva that can (presumably) burn through most materials on contact; he’s a uniquely dangerous 0-series and very quick to attack with his ability on top of it, making his moment in the episode a tense one. Even after he reforms, he’s still spitting acid without warning, though this does imply he may not have that much control over his acid. His powers are definitely a break in the pattern of 0-series experiments, but it’s a welcome one.
Franchise Appearances:
Didn’t want to include this, but for the sake of keeping some uniformity, I will. Hocker appears in only a single episode (”Hasagawa’s Cats”) and Leroy and Stitch. And for a split second in Stitch!’s second opening. He really doesn’t appear outside of his episode, which is unfortunate given his ability.
Final Thoughts:
Hocker’s a cool experiment, and he honestly stands out the most in his episode despite being relegated more to the side in favor of the likes of Manners and Forehead. Wish he was included a little more, but for the sake of not repeating myself again, he’s got himself a nice design and a unique power.
The Hocker Flag proposal for Arkansas
from /r/vexillology Top comment: Yeah, really wish they had gone with this. Instead they had to add "ARKANSAS" in there like we're a bunch of rubes.
