connor who's new to the big city after having moved from his small town for university, feeling isolated and just utterly terrified. he's not usually a great student but he managed to get a small grant, enough to get him far enough from home to where his parents won't monitor his every move. the only thing keeping him from going is how scared he is of being outed back home. so he decides to deal with the fear of change instead. he moves in by himself, driving 5 hours over state lines to get to his new home. he enters his dorm to find his new roommate has already moved in and fuck he's freaking out. what if his roommate is homophobic too?
he unpacks the little he was able to fit in his little camry, when his new roommate finally shows up. he pops in with his mom, saying hi and offering up a popsicle, introducing himself as fraser and rambling about any thing and everything. his mom gets up to leave and hints at fraser that he should let connor talk. connor's just been sitting in silence the whole time because he's not only overwhelmed but he's also exhausted. fraser apologizes and says he'll leave to let connor settle in better. connor grabs fraser's wrist and asks if he could stay, because he doesn't want to feel alone. connor slowly opens up about being alone in a new city and having no one. fraser takes this to say he would like to take the honor of being connor's first friend in the city, and connor is just taken aback? all his life he was an outcast and treated like nothing, just for him to be treated so well on his first - not even full- day.
as the semester goes on, fraser and connor get really close, even as connor makes a couple more friends. connor's struggling with his college algebra midterm and fraser, in those fuckin glasses, offers to help, sitting beside connor at his desk, who falls asleep (which fraser comes to realize he does quite frequently around him) on and kisses fraser's shoulder. fraser runs his hands through connor's hair, then carries him to his twin xl right across from fraser. in his sleepy haze, he asks fraser to sleep in the bed with him, and who is fraser, who's absolutely in love with connor, to say no?
they wake up in the morning when connor's alarm for his 8am goes off, and connor freaks out that fraser is cuddled next to him. he starts freaking out, thinking that he ruined his only chance at starting over in a new city, and ruined his friendship. fraser crushes that thought when he leans over and returns the favor from the night before, kissing connor's forehead. fraser says he's had a crush on connor since the moment he saw him, putting connor in good spirits for his 8am eng101 lecture. just soft and sweet bedmint.
