Stubborn – As easily as ISTPs go with the flow, they can also ignore it entirely, and usually move in another direction with little apology or sensitivity. If someone tries to change ISTPs' habits, lifestyle or ideas through criticism, they can become quite blunt in their irritation.
(This happened recently actually. Where Holiday Rep threatened to take away my electronics so I would go to sleep earlier and I actually got annoyed at her threatening that)
Insensitive – ISTPs use logic, and even when they try to meet others halfway with empathy and emotional sensitivity, it rarely seems to quite come out right, if anything is even said at all.
(Something I think I’m doing better on, but I know is a problem)
Private and Reserved – ISTP personalities are notoriously difficult to get to know. They are true introverts, keeping their personal matters to themselves, and often just prefer silence to small talk.
(The funny thing about this is that I feel like I distract people by telling them about very mundane and unimportant things that happen to me, but because of this they never realize that I have never told them anything substantial. Like how I couldn’t bring myself to tell my friends about my dad’s cancer or how I had planned on keeping his death a secret)
Easily Bored – ISTPs enjoy novelty, which makes them excellent tinkerers, but much less reliable when it comes to focusing on things long-term. Once something is understood, ISTPs tend to simply move on to something new and more interesting.
(I’ve always considered myself to have a short attention span, never sticking to my lessons in piano or cello or how I quit most of my sports teams, but I do realize I easily lose interest in pursing things. I remember once thinking ‘this is my problem with college and why I never pursued a degree, because nothing interests me enough to commit my life to’)
Dislike Commitment – Long-term commitments are particularly onerous for ISTPs. They prefer to take things day-by-day, and the feeling of being locked into something for a long time is downright oppressive. This can be a particular challenge in ISTPs' romantic relationships.
(This one might be hard for me to agree with, since with my most recent relationship, I actually did want something long term. But if compared to all my past ones, I always dropped people easily, rarely making it past the one month hump(and the only one that did was because I was guilted into staying) Or if we are talking children, this is probably reason number 1 as to why I don’t want children. Too much commitment)
Risky Behavior – This stubbornness, difficulty with others' emotions, focus on the moment, and easy boredom can lead to unnecessary and unhelpful boundary-pushing, just for fun. ISTPs have been known to escalate conflict and danger just to see where it goes, something that can have disastrous consequences for everyone around if they lose control of the situation.
(I think this one rings true the most. I’ve very often found myself doing things where I would think, “I shouldn’t do this, but I want to.” just to see what the outcome would be. I have found myself starting fights where they were unnecessary. (Like how I wanted to keep fighting with my one boyfriend just to see if I could get him to lash out physically) Found myself pushing hard to take something that wasn’t mine to take just to see if I could. (What I had done to Hoax) Asking questions that were beyond my boundary level.(Something I had done very often with Reverence))
