HOLEE SHIT. I just watched the Knights of Guinevere pilot, and Dana Terrace is alchemizing all of her frustration and disillusionment from having worked for Disney—and I really feel that only someone with insider experience could sharpen the satire to this kind of razor edge— into one brutal knockout of an animated show. If Shrek was “a mean little movie” (Lindsay Ellis’ words) when it came to satirizing Disney, Knights of Guinevere is absolutely vicious. But what makes the show work for me, what makes it good, is the empathy with which it treats its main characters. This is a show with a beating, living, gooey disgusting heart, and it tears open its own chest to show it to us. I’m so fucking excited to see what’s next in this story.
