seeing people freak out about how logan in dp&w fights on all fours and has these animal-like habits and saying "we moved past this way too quicky!!"

logan's an animal based mutant, everything about him is wrapped in the instinct of a feral animal. it's coded into his dna just like his body is coded to pain. him being an animal is NAWT new news he spent his early years in the woods living fully like one.

it's what makes his character so interesting in the first place, the fact that nature and instinct and wild is what drives him, but he's still got that human yearn for community and is able to dig his claws in and try to intigrate himself into personhood again and again and again, despite whatever the hell that tries to reduce him to simply a wild animal.

and yeah, i get people are probably freaking out about it cause they think it's sexy or whatever, but i have been wanting to rant ab this for awhile so this is my excuse.

Tomorrow when the farm boys find this freak of nature,

they will wrap his body in newspaper and carry him to the museum.

But tonight he is alive and in the north field with his mother.

It is a perfect summer evening: the moon rising over the orchard, the wind in the grass.

And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many stars as usual.

jason used to smoke.

he was offered cigarettes by a friend on the street, and he found no reason to say no.

he dropped it for a little bit when moving into wayne manor, but he found a way to open the attic window, and he picked it up again.

on nights when alfred was busy and batman was roaming the gotham skyline, jason would creep up to the attic and heave open the large window. he pulled himself up to sit on the frame, dangled his legs over the edge, and pulled out his box of cigarettes.

dick found him, one evening. it was near one am, and he was sneaking into the manor while bruce was away. dick saw jason from the driveway and whistled loudly, waving.

jason scowled, and turned his head. he still wasn't too fond of dick. the man was annoying, and fought with bruce for reasons that made no sense.

about six minutes later, dick appeared behind him.

"can i have a smoke?" dick asked, surprising jason. he didn't bother turning around.

"they're mine." he huffed, blowing smoke into the night air.

"i'll buy you more," dick responded. he seemed genuine, and jason wasn't sure what he thought about that. "please,"

"fine." jason snapped, thrusting a cig behind him. nimble fingers took the thing, and then jason couldn't hear dick anymore. he waited for a few moments before looking behind him, wondering where the man had gone.

"it's nice out tonight."

jason cursed, flailing out his hands to catch himself from falling. he craned his head up. "how the fuck did'ya get up there?"

"there's another window," dick responded from his perch above the frame. a wild grin was on his face.

jason scoffed and stuck his cig back in his mouth, breathing in the nicotine.

dick and jason smoked together from then on.

jason died from smoke inhalation. the joker beat him, blew him up, and he died from fucking smoke inhalation.

dick learned of this, and he mourned the brother he almost had.

he couldn't make himself pick up a cigarette after that.

when jason came back to life, he couldn't make himself pick one up either.

i know we shit on miguel for beating up miles and how it was unnecessary and stuff, and that's totally true. he should not be beating the hell out of children. he definitely should spend time in spider-jail for that. but can we talk about how terrified this man must be?

the loss of his daughter is fresh- possibly within less than a year fresh, and it was all his fault (at least that is what is interpreted by him). an entire UNIVERSE got destroyed because of his actions and now some punk kid who he was been trying to hard to keep out of this operation suddenly appears and starts making the same mistakes miguel did.

miguel sees this kid preaching that he can fix it all and miguel 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴. he can remember thinking those same things. he can remember the naivety of being someone new to multi-dimensional travel; but understanding doesn't change the risks, and this kid threatens everything miguel has seeked to fix.

miles is thinking like miguel did and that terrifies him. it terrifies him that what happened to his world would happen to everyone else's and it would inevitably be 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘭'𝘴 fault. not miles', not anyone else, miguel's (in his mind, anyway).

so, yes. yes he shouldn't have chased miles, but fear does things to the brain. fear leads to desperation and desperation leads to miles' determination and that leads to more fear and it continues in this vicious cycle of pain, danger and pure, guilty terror.

i'm not excusing his actions, but i understand them. i understand them and it hurts so bad in a good way.

me thinking about how jason todd was in his sophomore year when he died, and all the kids in his class and all his friends had to deal with the fact that they'll never see their friend again because he died in some super suspicious way

and the fact that everyone in the school probably grieved over him because he was such a sweet guy

and the fact that news reporters probably hung around the school for ages trying to get interviews with random students about jay for insiders about how he was because they wanted to milk the shit out of this teenager's death even though all these kids are devastated over the loss of a school mate (even the ones who never knew him, regardless of the fact he was son of a famous man) and don't want to face pushy adults about their friends death

thinking about the empty seat in the classrooms

and one open club officer spot for book club

and the now missing cast member in drama class

and the posters they put up in the halls for him with signatures of every student's name (even the ones that had never seen him in person)

batman means more to dick grayson then bruce wayne ever will.

dick grayson means more to batman then he'll ever mean to bruce wayne.

batman is dick grayson's partner. with batman, dick grayson is someone that means something. with batman, dick grayson can soar like he did with his parents. with batman, dick grayson is robin.

batman is someone dick grayson can run to for protection. batman is someone who ruffles his hair and tells him he's improving. batman is someone who'll softly tell dick grayson to go upstairs and get some rest; it's much too late for a young boy to be solving cases. batman is someone dick grayson can always count on.

the cowl is something dick grayson has learned to love. batman may be gruff, cold, and silent at times, but he does care. batman is the one that bends down and holds the hand of a victim as she shivers in the cold. batman is the one who did the same for dick grayson, after he ran away from wayne manor for the first time.

bruce wayne is dick grayson's legal guardian. with bruce wayne, dick grayson is a traumatized little boy that watched his parents die. with bruce wayne, dick grayson is a circus kid that has to clean up for galas. with bruce wayne, well... bruce wayne wasn't around much at first.

bruce wayne is someone who wasn't there at the dinner table. bruce wayne is someone who didn't quite know how to take care of a child. bruce wayne is someone who held so much grief, it couldn't help but bleed into other people. bruce wayne is someone dick grayson doesn't really know if he can count on.

the man is someone dick grayson has learned to love. it's really hard though, loving the man. he loves bruce wayne out of obligation, maybe. he loves bruce wayne to keep batman in his life. bruce wayne is someone who drove dick grayson away because of his own grief. bruce wayne still ruffled dick grayson's hair, but it was more out of muscle memory, really

after all, the cowl was always down when bruce wayne's fists struck his face.

gotham is good friends with death.

they meet each other more often than not; death stays the night sometimes.

gotham trusts death. gotham trusts death more than anything, because death takes care of her children.

when her children die, gotham watches as their souls rise from their bodies. the souls are drawn to her, and they are cold on her calloused hands as she lifts them up to her friend.

death takes them, and cradles them gently against his bones. the chill of the souls mixes with his own, and he understands them.

death has their memories now, and it makes him cherish the souls even more.

(you must understand, death does not hate life. in fact, he's in love with her. life is long, and beautiful, and death is very patient. he understands there will always be an end to everything, and he's content watching a soul blossom in life's hands before being passed to him.)

gotham is friends with death because he loves her children too. death does not judge her for how often he visits. he enjoys her company, and enjoys the children that she passes to him.

death is good friends with gotham.

and life still blooms in her children.

thinkin' about that panel where steph is dying on the hospital bed and she makes sure that she's not just a replacement for tim. she needs bruce to promise that she is actually his robin, and not some little girl that wandered into his life unwanted, kept only as a placeholder for the real thing.

what she doesn't know is that's what robin is. robin is the child that happened to drop into bruce's life at the right time. robin will never be unwanted, though, and each robin (while they all echo each other) is unique and always comes in at the right time.

robin grows with each person who takes on the mantel. steph was never a replacement for tim because she was the robin bruce needed at the time.

bruce tells her she was robin. that everything she worked for was real and wanted. she can die knowing that robin wasn't ruined or tainted by her, because steph /is/ eobin. she's just as robin as the other four.
