In this video, Henry Gilroy, writer and co-executive producer of Star Wars: Rebels, answers the question: Was Sabine becoming a Jedi in Ahsoka part of the original Rebels plan? I’ll say it was absolutely not the plan. As a matter of fact, we had a discussion in actually season three about whether that...and we really felt not only did that step on Ezra’s story, but it was like a retread of, “Ok. We already did this.” You know what I mean? So, yeah, the idea of Sabine training as a Jedi when she is already, you know, this fantastic warrior of her own type? We felt like, “Well, this is overkill.” So, honestly, I had nothing to do with, um, the Ahsoka series, so I was shocked! Because pretty much, you know, our entire story team, we discussed it in season three. We thought it was a bad idea. We kind of did a pros and cons list, and we were like going, “Yeah. This is just kind of like a weak, a weak retread. Why are, why is Sabine, you know, um, why would we push that way?” um, HOWEVER, what I love about, um, the story with the Darksaber is you don’t have to be a Jedi to have Jedi ideals and, and embrace the Jedi philosophy. And I think that’s what’s really, like, the more important thing, rather than, “ok. Now I’m going to, you know, Force-push Ezra, you know, 100 feet when I’ve never used the Force before!” You know what I mean? It’s that kind of thing. The idea that they wanted to push forward another lightsaber, like, wielding character that...there’s something to that I’m sure. You know what I mean? So, I, yeah, I, I just would’ve fought it tooth and nail.

One of the biggest differences between the OG Avatar: the Last Airbender fans and the newer generation, at least in my opinion is their feelings towards the Zutara ship.

Now, full disclosure: I was like 9 when the show came out. I was and to an extent still am a Zutara shipper. I have my reasoning, which has changed a bit over the years. The OG fans who didn't like Zutara were generally Kataang shippers.

These days people who are against Zutara are generally against it for the whole "It's a toxic, colonizer/colonized ship" reason which I think is silly, since many of them are totally okay shipping Zuko with Sokka because apparently colonizer/colonized ships are totally fine if it's gay...I'm not even complaining about the Zukka ship.

I just don't like it when people compare Zutara to Draco/Hermione or similar ships because...hey, Zuko's redemption arc is kind of a huge part of the show and he gets better by the end. (Also like if you want to ship pre-redemption Zuko with Katara that's cool too. I mean again, I was a Zutara shipper from the start so like I cannot judge,)

But the people who say that it's purely "colonizer romance" and has no canonical basis - are wrong. Because Zuko and Katara havemany parallels:

They're both royalty (Katara's father is the Chief of the Southern Tribe, so she does have some status)

They both lost their mothers at young ages

This loss heavily affected how they act as adults

Both feel like they have to prove themselves through their bending

They both take on other identities (Blue Spirit, Painted Lady)

And then there's the bits of character development

Katara offers to heal Zuko's scar. Despite everything, when they are imprisoned together she is willing to see the good in him and heal him.

Zuko is the only person aside from who understands Katara's grief. He blames himself for his mother leaving. Katara blames herself for her mother's death.

They literally fight Azula together. Katara is the reason Zuko had the throne at the end.

And then there's the fact that by Season 3 - Katara could absolutely end Zuko if she wanted to. Like - everybody talks about the moments where Zuko witnesses her blood bending and her stopping the rain as like "Holy shit. I could have died so many times."

I'd argue Zuko always knew Katara could absolutely end him if she wanted to - but he assumed that with her threat about ending his destiny "right then and there" that it would be quick and painless. After the events of "The Southern Raiders," he realized that this was not the case.

He never doubted her power, he just underestimated how blood thirsty she could be.

I don't know - just some thoughts.

i don’t think we talk enough about declan being equally as down bad and ‘all or nothing’ with romance as ronan is. like yes ronan said he would start wars and burn cities for adam’s true smile, begged god for adam after he first saw him and fortuitously had all his objects of worship were in one downtown block etc but ronan had known adam atleast 18 months at this stage. whereas declan really risked it all to get tyrian purple overnight for a first date gift after ONE conversation…the man was discussing their marriage as a ‘when’ not an ‘if’ before we even saw them kiss like what’s his excuse lmaoo
