In the End You Are Beloved
This fic was written by hoodedcreature ( @smalltownfae ) for pelicandaughter ( @lairn ) and can be found on AO3.
This collection of snippets in first person pov brilliantly captures the horror and hollowness of the last days of Fitz’s life. A chilling read that will also make you tear up, thank you for taking part again this year ♥
Books: The Fitz and Fool Trilogy
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Characters: FitzChivalry Farseer, The Fool, Bee Farseer, Nighteyes
Summary: FitzChivalry Farseer can't get a break. At the end of his story he is a living buffet for tiny worms, he is surrounded by loved ones he doesn't recognize and he stopped caring about everything that doesn't involve his new hobby: carving a gigantic stone wolf.
Excerpt:
“The worms contort and struggle for space within my body. My Skill makes me even more aware of the crawling vermin, like an itch I cannot scratch. I do my best to get rid of them, but they resist and multiply. I decide to ignore them. There is an urgent need to focus on the next memory I am going to give the dragon, or rather, the wolf. I have been feeding it the smallest of memories. I had no idea of the impact those could cause. Such seemingly insignificant memories. I still know what food is, but I cannot remember the smells or the taste. The memory of my senses is slowly leaving me as I feed the hungry stone and only a sense of emptiness and longing for what once was there is left. I know that smell used to mean a lot to me, but I cannot remember why. I know the Fool has no smell and that fact seemed important once. Many of the things that were once important seem so small now that I am staring at my bloody silver hands that tirelessly carve the big wolf.”
