hoomanao replied to your post:seriously though words are being awfully ornery,...
do dragons still sit on treasures, hordes? ornery thornery hornery corny or rather corner-y. it’s striking or rather struck and hope it comes unstuck!
sometimes they do, if they are also wyrms prone to attacked Wiglafs.
also mostly i just just yes words those words are a mini-horde of their own, and i trust they have their own guardian wyrm flicking its tail over 'em.
You can tell a lot about someone by the music they listen to. Hit shuffle in your iPod/iPhone/iTunes/media player and write down the first 10 songs. Then pass this on to 10 people.

Nirvana, 'Drain You': with eyes so dilated / i've become your pupil/ you've taught me everything / without a poison apple
Bessie Smith, 'Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out': then i began to fall so low / i didn't have any friend, i had nowhere to go
Joan Baez, 'Sweet Sir Galahad': well you know I think my fate's belated / because of all the hours I waited / for the day when I'd no longer cry

Burn, Read, Rewrite: The Magicians; Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe?
Burn: The Magicians - I just read it a couple weeks ago and oh my god I hated it so much. I thought it was gonna be amazing and it was too long and weirdly misogynistic and gross. If I wasn't so bitter about it, I'd say rewrite BUT I'M SO MAD AT IT
Read: HP! Always
Rewrite: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It could use some toning down in the whole heavyhanded Christian allegory
plankton. sanctuary. litotes. (these memes do happen. and then we stop and take stock or rather inventory. anyway yes! choose like teeth and interpret like dance and tell as you will it)
PLANKTON is like “i’ll walk the plank again, but only if you’ll show me all the little-crowding pieces of the water where i’ll fall.” which would be great, because then the pirates would break out their pirate-crafted microscopes and everyone would have a major SCIENCE MOMENT (stars confetti and all) complete with little lime-green scuttling friends. (i don’t know whether any kind of plankton’d actually be lime green, but that’s the image in mind.) the word reminds me of something, though i can’t seem to land on what, something reaching back i think to middle school. in high school, we captured and studied macroinvertebrates, but that isn’t the same thing (scud! bloodworm midge! how dirty is the water? very.)
maybe it has to do with whales.
…that’s probably appropriate.
SANCTUARY i think of Faulkner and the summer my reading came fueled first by his works. at the time, it was Sanctuary - along with, always, Quentin’s section of Sound and the Fury - that called my rhythm my wanting to further exploration. there are words and phrase-flowers from the novel that have stayed with me, though much of the action hangs forgotten out of mind. in novels, in most writing, i rarely remember what happens, precisely (or it’s a different breed of happens). what i recall is a set of impressions, tone and some sense of language. usually. i think. i suppose my interest holds more in the how of saying.
and i think about Stafford Savage breaking his mirror breaking his glass and time shifting inconsistent, think about the self-driven deed that incited his shattering and from which there was no hiding, from which he maybe never sought to hide. always wondered what the fallout would be for him, and how might come recovery. because he does, i think, regain a balance of his own, learns to live with think with rhythms that once threw him out of synch.
LITOTES i looked up, ignorant one that i am; the language of rhetoric has never been close to me. which is to say i’ve never learned it, and as ever i am careful to guard myself with claims of ignorance, to call out faults before they can be ascribed from outside. something to work on. something i do work on, or have worked on. anyway. i AM, i would say, a proponent of negatives and of periphrastic speech. why offer a word directly when you can veil it tension it by placing it at odds with the meaning you’re attempting to ascribe? (oh lord, i’m getting convoluted, not so clear as i could be… for this particular responding, though, i’ll let it fly. excess words that maybe aren’t, and all.) why offer an idea directly when you can point out contradictions by the very form of your word-setting? sense in some direct fashion isn’t always necessary; general impression often serves.
with this word, i’ve found a descriptor for a way of expressing i employ in no small measure. oh god, the rockiness of that sentence - bursting with gravel with rocks to cringe its crossing - gives me pause. NO SMALL PAUSE. oh dear.
A, D, and E?
A. If you could get away with one murder in your lifetime without any legal, social, or emotional repercussions, would you kill someone?
Honestly, it is difficult to both imagine someone I would want to kill and that it would have no emotional consequences, so I’m going to say no.
D. Would you rather know everything the universe has to offer but in exchange lose all emotions or remain the way you are now?
No. I wouldn’t be human anymore, and I am not done experiencing, learning, and understanding what it is to be human yet.
E. If you could live and be healthy without sleeping or eating/drinking, which would you cut out of your life?
Sleeping, I suppose. I love sleeping more than I love food (except maybe goat cheese), but I would love to have more time to do things. I also think that food is something people connect over, and I wouldn’t want to lose that.
