Summary:
The (hopefully) up-and-coming band, Arkadia, find themselves stuck in the middle of nowhere right before Christmas. It’s all a bit Virgin Mary for them, but luckily an old friend (with a very appealing knack for stage lighting) lives nearby.

Second review of a fic by @hopskipaway!
This one shot was very fun to read, lighthearted and fluffy, with a lot of nice references and good use of canon material. Loved the warm, christmassy atmosphere and the Murven parts, but what really caught my attention were the dynamics between the band members! By the end of the fic it seemed to me that I’d known them for a long time, but I still wanted to know more details about them as a group! It definitely piqued my interest because their interactions as a group and between single characters were very well written and described.
Highlights:
I really like the match between characters and instruments although I’ve always thought of Murphy as the quirky guitarist with a knack for improvising solos and Bellamy as the charming lead singer (not complaining tho)
The Jonty hints in the first part of the fic (adorable)!
The underground vibe in Murphy’s thoughts about their ‘tour’
Clarke was /very/ on point as the super busy no-nonsense band manager
The nicknames in the group chat. ‘Momager Griffin’ had me cackling
Sinclair the good foster dad 😭 I loved how he was written and the fact that he and Raven love each other a lot and he still lets her go with the band! Top Good Father Figure right here.
The metal figurines were such a cute idea to introduce Finn!
The reference to Bryan kicking ass to whoever approaches Miller and the napping references *chef’s kiss*
okay so i can’t even begin to explain how much you’ve made me fall in love with the quartet that is tomgreg stewywilla. i know it might be kinda sacrilegious to take some of the few non-roys and focus on them but they’re just fascinating. i do want to someday write some succession fic on a side ao3 and you best believe it’ll be full of them.
i’m just so?? i feel enlightened.

And first off THANK YOU!!!!!!!! 😭😭❤️❤️ As someone whose heart is very much owned by the tomgreg/stewywilla polycule, it warms my heart so much to hear other people have fallen in love with them too!!! 😭😭 Literally that quartet and the potential in their dynamics is so fascinating to me and occupies my brain 24/7, not to mention that they’re so ridiculously fun to write that I really can’t see myself spending my time doing anything else for a good long while 😭😭
Also as someone who has been EXTREMELY blasphemous with her treatment of the Roy children in her own fics, just know that I fully support you in all of your endeavors and if you do end up writing such a sacrilegious fic PLEAAAASE send it my way <3 <3 <3 Literally always so excited to read more tomgreg/stewywilla like you have no idea

Even from behind him, Raven can tell he’s scowling. “How am I supposed to relax when you might cut my ear off?”
“That would be pretty funny.”
“Raven!”
“Relax, Murph. I’m doing this ‘cause I want to. Everything up here is the same, and I’d rather your weird greasy hair changed a bit.”
With a final swipe of her knife, she’s finished. Murphy looks at his reflection in the metal wall. “Huh. Not bad, Reyes. I like it.”
“Course you do. I’m awesome.” Raven grins.
He looks so much better than Monty.

hey!!! okay so i just have to say that i followed you for benvi, but seeing the michael love/rafael… not love is so vindicating. it still makes me so angry to think about what direction that show went in (but i did love it… despite it all). anyway! here’s to new shows hopefully not disappointing us? -elle, aka someone who will hopefully make benvi content if i ever find the time, but for now i will lurk. <3

Haha yes, I have much “not love” for Rafael. It’s sad how the show went because I used to really love it! At least Petra had a good storyline. They show causes me much anger as well.

i just wanted to let you know that your response to my m//emori meta was really refreshing since it sometimes felt that i was the only (or at least one of very few) people who saw it that way... or maybe didn’t see it that way is the better phrase here. anyway!! i also just wanted to say how much i envy you for not watching the later seasons. oh, to be able to scrub my mind of some things. i actually didn’t know that you didn’t watch the latter seasons! in hindsight, i would have probably wanted to stop after season 5 — it had good murven moments, a hopeful ending, and no worm holes or weird time travel plots. past me: you should have known when to quit. anyway (times two) just wanted to say hi and that i appreciate you in the fandom. <3

I totally get that. I don't hate them as a pairing but I would say I'm neutral-cool on them and, from my pov at least, they seem like one of the most popular pairs in what's left of the fandom. So it can be a little awkward to not be as keen on them. I also do have some ships I hate that are very popular side pairings and it's always a real pain to have to read around them or skip out on fics that feature them or blacklist them on tumblr... Anyway, I think my main reason for not loving this pairing is that I feel like we missed out on the getting-into-the-relationship part--it was a little tell-not-show in terms of why they became a couple imo--but I agreed with your points about how they were often incompatible in practice. I feel like TV does that a lot tbh: puts two characters together who seem like they work at first glance, without putting any work into depicting a functional relationship. They're just "meant to be" and we should accept that.
Yeah, I stopped watching in late S4 because I was really upset about Jasper's death. Like REALLY upset. I needed to take a break and separate myself from the show for my own well-being, but I did think I'd eventually come back. But the time skip and the separation of the mains into different groups just created a situation that was super uninteresting to me. I kept waiting for the desire to binge and catch up as S5 aired but it never came. Still hasn't! I did watch the Dark Year ep or whatever it was called, for the cannibalism, but the only part I liked was Diyoza. I don't know many people who watched all the way through S7 without regrets tbh. It's kinda sad how many people in this fandom haven't seen the whole thing or wish they hadn't seen the whole thing. It's the first fandom I've been in that's self-sustaining in that way: everyone's here (for those who are still here) for the characters/general world or for actual friendships they've made with other fans, rather than because all 100 eps were stellar. Sort of a shame honestly.
Don't worry about the writing! I just hope you have fun with the prompts! My to-read list is still way too long anyway, and I'm trying to bring back some of my own very old writing projects, so I totally get how it is.
nemori question of the day (NQOTD): what is their favourite thing about the other person? also, if we want to be realistic (because no couple is perfect), what are their pet peeves with each other.
I had fun coming up with this one, because I feel like some of their favorite things about each other also play into their pet peeves lol.
So Emori’s favorite thing about Nelson is the way that he makes her laugh. I don’t even think he’s always trying to be funny, but Nelson is the type of guy that pays attention to detail and he doesn’t say much, so I think in the moments that he does choose to say something it’s very deliberate. And some of those moments are to make Emori laugh, like just a random observation or something kind of off the cuff.
I feel like Emori’s pet peeve is she wishes that Nelson were a bit more open to trying new things. This counts for food as well as experiences. She feels like sometimes she has to coax him into doing things, since she’s so used to just trying everything. Nelson is just used to finding something he likes and then sticking to that.
I think Nelson’s favorite thing about Emori is the way she gets so excited about everything. She seizes as many opportunities as possible, and she’s always ready to find the positives in a situation.
This leads to his pet peeve, which is that she can be a bit impulsive at times and not fully think something through before doing it. His other pet peeve is that she snores but won’t admit that she does. 😌
