The problem with the slasher genre isn't that it's inherently bad or lesser, but that 99% of the time, the writers don't waste potential for a truly good story and interesting characters, and they just rely on gore, jumpscares, "cool kills," and played-out tropes. And it's usually because of (most of) the fans throwing a fit whenever they do have some depth. Especially the villains! Scream 5 basically mocked these kinds of fans with Amber and Richie, but that franchise is guilty of this very problem: The main characters are boring, and the far more interesting/entertaining side characters and villains get killed without much screentime. (Although, that tends to be a problem with the majority of fiction anyway.)
Don't get me started on how much wasted potential their has been in the Child's Play franchise, but everything gets reduced to "Lol killer dolls!"
I've already made a whole post about this on my horror blog:
💬 5 🔁 23 ❤️ 89 · GIVE ME DEPTH IN MY SLASHER GENRE!! ✊🏽😤 · The slasher sub-genre has so much potential for emotion and depth, but we seldo

This server would be 18+ due to the mature nature of the franchise itself. While this is not a NSFW server, conversations may include mature topics connected to the series.
i think online horror spaces would be a lot more pleasant if everyone watched either blair witch project or the haunting 1963. and by watch i mean don't just watch, but really PAY ATTENTION. analyze that shit. just a little hint for y'all: the witch and the ghosts are not the "villain" of those movies. hope this helps :)))) genuinely though i'm sorry for such a bitterly nasty and passive-aggressive vaguepost but i really really wish people in horror spaces knew how to be normal about women. it utterly astounds me how many people are willing to shove aside the most obvious and apparent of themes and subtext all in service of babying the women harassers/killers and calling female protagonists stupid or #aesthetic or whatever shit y'all get up to. ultimately, it's all fiction, so i won't harass you over this stuff or anything ofc lmao. however, i will urge you to examine your own biases, as how you talk and think about fiction influences (and is influenced by) how you perceive and act upon reality.
just saw someone in a reply equate snuff with extreme gore. sweetie, no. these are two very different things.
Man…I decided to play bye sweet Carole, and I hate to say it, but I’m disappointed. A lot of it doesn’t quite mesh in terms of playable characters against the backgrounds, and the narrator really killed the vibe for me. Had to refund it bc I just feel like when comparing qualities, bye sweet Carole was not on the same level as silksong or other $20 games I played. I tried my best, but mechanically I just didn’t vibe with it. Props to the people who loved this game!
are you a horror fan?
if so, to what degree?
if not, let me know so i don’t like being up horror media :3
I need to watch more horror movies. I've seen some like Scream, It, The Birds, Alien, Predator, Ghostbusters, Jaws, Insidious, Gremlins, Bird Box, a couple of the old Universal monster movies and probably others i'm forgetting.
I also enjoy shows like Gravity Falls, Over The Garden Wall, The Owl House, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.
I really need to watch more horror movies as I do enjoy them.
Which ones do you recommend?
