You guys do know that you can do whatever you want in your own stories, right?
You can romantically pair whichever characters you want together. You can have them live happily ever after, or you can have them end tragically. Or nicely. Whichever you want.
You can do whatever you want to do with your world-building. You can make up whatever laws and customs and cultural practices you want to. You can have MPreg or FemPreg or have everyone pop out of the damn ground like a PlantSim!
You can make a Medieval Fantasy world that isn't misogynistic, homophobic, etc.
You can have villain protagonists. And they don't need to be redeemed, not even to have a happy ending.
You can kill off NO characters, or EVERY character, regardless of the plot and genre!
You can have your characters use bedazzled fucking unicorns that poop rainbow turds like it's 2014 as transportation, if you want!
You can literally do whatever you want to do in fiction. And unless it's something that is copyrighted, or you live in some oppressive country with censorship laws for fiction, no one can stop you. (This all applies to fanfiction as well.)
"But what if people think it's stupid or gross or-" If you're letting literature/film snobs or Purity Pushers control what you do with your art, then you have no business creating art.
Or you can make the most basic, normal worlds and stories conceivable (depending on the genre). What matters is that it is the story you want it to be.
