Resharing this pic because I have some thoughts to share on the Sylki self-cest thing.

I feel like the producers of the Loki series -- took some inspiration from V.C. Andrews's Flowers In The Attic and that's what led to the Sylki self-cest. If you don't know this Flowers In The Attic is a horror tragedy novel that was originally published in 1979. The book is about four siblings who are locked away in their abusive grandparents' attic to avoid becoming homeless after their father dies and their mother is forced to return to her parents' home. The story ends with two of the siblings -- a boy and a girl -- having a consensual, incestous romantic relationship.

Then there's like five more books to read and it's not even Andrews's most fucked up work imo.

V.C. Andrews still has a massive cult following even and though incest is taboo it's still heavily fetishized -- just ask Thorki shippers🙃 I think they might have also thought that Marvel's right-wing audience would have found the Sylki self-cest to be more acceptable than if they had cast a male actor or whatever as Loki, the God of stories, and had him show to give Tom Hiddleston forehead kisses.

Also now I that think about considering the works he's made it wouldn't be all that surprising if the whole thing was Tom's idea🤔 Especially considering that Tom seems to love playing flawed or "broken" characters, and the whole point of Flowers In The Attic is not to support incest. Like I can promise you that no one whose read V.C. Andrews's work supports incest because

The whole point of Flowers In The Attic was that the kids had been through so much trauma that by the end of it you were just grateful that they just had someone to love them, no matter who it was and no matter how fucked up their relationship might seem to outsiders.

So I think the producers were hoping that Loki fans had that same type of empathy but apparently not🤷🏻‍♀️

Editing to add in the movie trailer for the original 1987 Flowers In The Attic movie. It was remade in the 2010s by the Lifetime channel but that movie is like watching Blue's Clues compared to this.

I don't have a whole lot of deep literary analysis for Dracula daily (tho I find great joy in reading everyone else's)

I do wanna say one thing.

I find it really amazing that due to this method of story telling (at least in my case) Dracula has turned from a Horror story into a Horror Tragedy.

I think it works incredibly well for reading Dracula in the modern day where Dracula and vampires are so present in pop culture.
