"Meet the Jockeys"

I went on a bit of research spree so if you want to know some bits of Umamusume Horse Lore and the origin of a whole bunch of Uma's quirk, design, personality and story, I got you.

How do you safely ride a Rapidash without getting burned? Also, how do you prevent the saddle from being destroyed?

generally rapidash and ponyta's flames aren't actually that hot unless they're being used for self defense. if you have a close bond, they trust you, and they aren't particularly spooked in that moment, their flames don't burn. its more a comfortable warmth, like being under a big blanket. it can get a little uncomfortable after a while and can actually cause some heat damage over time if you aren't careful and ride for too long, but a calm, well trained rapidash or ponyta that trusts you won't light you ablaze. usually.

this does not mean they never do actually burn riders. this can actually be quite common if one isn't trained properly, uses a move while being ridden, or gets spooked. most riding gear is at least fire resistant, or even fireproof if possible. its also all pretty much natural fibers if it's not fire proof so that it doesnt melt onto your skin if it catches fire.

a lot of it is similar to anything used to train a lot of other fire types.

This horse is anything but Karen I did some research on this horse and Apparently what gather is that she was dubbed a Canadian anti hero

I like to play “tag” I say that is because apparently she was baby she would chase the people out the stall and would be becomes very deadly if you didn’t have hold on her surprisingly when you did get hold on her was happy and very lovable and very respectful when she picked up her feet

There was also golf story where Caren grabbed on golf cart and driver had to flickered towel and he said to was “Get out of here, Satan“ and got her hooves of the cart and got cart to work and just drove as face they can.

If you gave a horse money, what would it spen it on? Would it go to the horse vendor a d buy horsey things like oats and hair braids. Or would it use it to become more horse? Bigger horse, better horse?

I have been waiting two and a half years to drop this shit and fuck with the party about their Horses™️

(And listen it’s not that I wasn’t fucking with the party the entire rest of the time about the Horses™️ it’s that this was one specific thing I also wanted to fuck with them on)

Cuz

We had a harpy fight

The bard cannot succeed on effects to be charmed

When you’re charmed by harpies you have to move as far as you can towards them every turn

The harpies were 100’ up

So we get to his turn. And the bard says “well I guess I take this Horse™️ as close as I can”

And I say “well on the ground that’s 30’.”

And he says “on the ground?”

And I say “roll to see what you know about horses Bard”

And he says “oh fuck you”

And he rolls REAL low Intelligence check

And REAL high Animal Handling

And tells the Horse™️ “we gotta get as close to the harpy as possible”

So the Horse™️ runs that 30’ on the ground

Stops

Stands still

Glitches 90’ into the air (action and bonus action)

The harpies were unhappy

The party were ecstatic

Everyone gets an Intelligence check next turn or when they next do anything but harpy bonking to see if they know whether or not this is normal horse behaviour

The NUMBER of 4s and 6s

It was beautiful

It was magical

All the horses got a chance to do some flying around just glitching into a standing sprite and going zoooooom

Our elf cleric is going to be DEVASTATED that he missed this

The only person who realised this shouldn’t be happening was the halfling rogue-monk, who’s already scared of the Horses™️ anyway for unrelated reasons

(Related to the rest of the fuckery I’ve been doing for the last 3 years though :) )

Luckily he was too scared to say anything, because if anyone actually said aloud that it was impossible they’d all have immediately fallen with full fall damage

Our NPC half-elf druid who was riding with the bard (his love interest by sheer coincidence and bard’s incredible charms) did technically also realise this shouldn’t be happening

And then rolled real low to think it was a thing magic could do

But I am Merciful and the bard went right after him so bard was able to persuade him that “well we knew they aren’t normal horses anyway” and save the day

Oh and also for the first time EVER something rolled to attack the bard and didn’t hit him!

(His AC is 6, his DEX is 2 it was an accomplishment)

i was reading one star reviews of a few RA books and one of my favs gotta be one that was complaining about how the horses were written so inaccurately.

and a major point was that the rangers talked to their horses.

as someone who spends a few hours a week at a barn i can tell you that literally EVERYONE talks to horses, even the parents that don't ride but come with their kids talk to the horses. people talking to horses was one of the only things john got RIGHT about the horses.
