Cold Coals

Usually we were warm with each other, sometimes cold, hardly ever hot. Hot is risky. 

Warm doesn’t seem like a bright future though – too mellow. So you’ve abandoned warm. And I was too afraid of your coldness to let you burn. 

Now I can’t get rid of my frostbites and everyone thinks they are burns. 

It’s ridiculous, realizing my best protection would have been to make myself more vulnerable. But laughing is hurtful right now.

And the saddest thing is: I know, this too shall pass.
