The claws are designed to apply intense pressure when grabbing onto things they plan to tear apart and eat. My brother-in-law, Rick, is holding the crab so that gravity and the direction the shell is facing make it unlikely the pincers can reach his fingers. If you don't know how to hold a crab the chef's will help you if you ask nicely. Don't forget cocktail sauce, lemons, drawn butter and Boudin Sourdough bread.
