House of the Moon as a piece of art is old enough to drink. how do you feel about it as a piece of writing, in retrospect?

Thank you for coming to the puppet show I put on to show myself the way out of the time loop. It was a beautiful and transfiguring time of my life and I think I turned a choice phrase or two while I was at it. I hope you enjoyed it too.

I can't sleep right now so I thought I'd give a little peek behind the curtain for HoTM for the like two people who care:

-My OUTLINE is 14 pages long. That's font size 11 in google docs, 14 pages. And I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to re-do a lot of it for plot points I'm going to be swaping out / squeezing in.

-I have a tab in the document called "the Bible of HoTM" which essentially keeps track of every amount of lore I add to the story since it's an AU and I'm trying to keep everything straight. (lol "straight")

-I have a separate doc with one-shots from the POVs of Madison/Kaylee/Chris that I write for funsies when I want to shift perspectives or just sort of flesh out those characters more but I doubt I'll ever release them because two of those are OCs so I don't really think anyone cares. But there's some stuff going on there you guys would be shocked about lol.

-I have a tab in the HoTM document for discarded writing and it's currently 46 pages long. There are a lot of times where I think a scene is going to work for a chapter but then I decide that I have to set the chapter up different and I have to discard the whole scene. I keep all of those chunks though because there are definitely things I can yank later and put somewhere else. It includes a deleted scene where Naba and Connor meet in front of the statue of Joseph Smith for the first time (before I decided to start chapter 9 with the awkward dinner), about three different versions of the Steve Blade backstory (I still haven't decided if I'm going to expand on that lore or not), but the biggest one is a what might have been for the scene where Connor and Kevin talk in the dorm lounge and end up turning off the lights aka the scene where Kevin has his first recognized attraction to men. The original scene was going to be a dorm getting-to-know-you type of thing where a game of human knot got some predicaments happening but it almost felt too ridiculous and on the nose. Also, I have a bunch more Arnold angst but I really try not to make things gratuitous.

-I also have a tab called "notes" where I just jot down random thoughts and 90% of the time when I go back it's near nonsense. Here are some quotes from the notes tab: "'SOMETHING INCREDIBLE' IS MANIPULATIVE TERM — like 'good' for glinda!!" "Potential chapter titles: 'The Gospel According to Madison' and 'In Which Kevin Learns Nothing'"

-Lastly, like 6 times out of 10 I forget to put the chapter dividers in between POVs before posting because when I copy/paste from google docs it doesn't translate the horizontal line from google docs to the horizontal line from Ao3. I often remember like five minutes after I post that I forgot to add the dividers. So if you're ever spectacularly early to a chapter being posted and it makes no sense that's probably what's happening.
