Hototogisu, originally this word is a name for a kind of birds (its English name is 'little cuckoo'). In this case Hototogisu is also a name for this flower (English name is toad lily). In Japanese folklife, people believed this bird went back and forth between this world and land of the dead.

And this flower blooms in 彼岸HIGAN season, like Equinox Flower does. We believe our ancestors spirits come back to this world during this season.
