got the itch to draw some outfit so i dig up a vampire character i drew 7 years ago, never used him much for anything (ended up hand it over to my friend for their Vampire The Masquerade gameplay) I made this guy originally as a fur trader from the 18th century but now revamp him to a much older bygone era. His origin trace back to a Germanic tribe, possibly Saxon, born somewhere in the 7th century. His Middle English name is Laurence. He’s a filthy rich furrier who likes wearing fur, gris, wolf,  marten, fitch, ermine, miniver, you name it he got it.

The late medieval period was home to some absolutely fabulously weird and whacky headgear, but I kept things simple here for my own sanity 😂

Houppelande

A houppelande or houpelande is an outer garment, with a long, full body and flaring sleeves, that was worn by both men and women in Europe in the late Middle Ages. Sometimes the houppelande was lined with fur. The garment was later worn by professional classes, and has remained in Western civilization as the familiar academic and legal robes of today.

The houppelande appeared around 1360 and was to remain fashionable well into the next century. It had its origins in the herigaut, a similar 13th-century garment with hanging sleeves. The edges of the houppelande were often dagged, or cut into decorative patterns such as scallops, "embattled" tabs or even leaf shapes.

Narnia follow up - ASLAN

My interpretation of Aslan in the world we established for the Narnian Frog. His huge mane is black with a purple sheen to reference a dark mane on a lion representing power as well as human connotations of purple as royalty. As Aslan is a representation of Christian god in Lewis' work, and how the rainbow is often a symbol of him, this informed my colour choice as well as the halo present on all of the Narnian animals being augmented into the astrological symbol for the sun, adorned with a fully beaded veil to be the rain counterpart. The Sleeve silhouette is my take on a houppelande to show old power, with multiple huge sleeves to show his bountifulness and glory. The patterns reference different aspects of the earth and cosmos and animals as he made them all. What a lad!

Alright. The instructions for patterning the houppelande suggested that I try it on a doll first if I'm uncertain of it.

That I am.

So I'll be making a houppelande for the only doll I own. My vintage Cabbage Patch kid I received for Christmas in 1984. (Yes I am that old and on Tumblr)

Cora is is getting her own garb! Which now makes me feel obligated to bring her to an event. But only if the garb is cute, I don't want to embarrass my baby girl.
