These young birds are two species that are often confused. One is a house martin and the other is a swallow and they, along with the sand martin here in the UK, make up the family Hirundinidae. Although they can be easily confused, there are several key ID points that can tell them apart! House martins are such sweet little birds! Sadly their numbers are dropping in the UK, but now we are adding swift bricks to new houses, reducing pesticides even further and rewilding to bring back native insect numbers… may we have even more martins in the future!
