Imagine a House AU where stacey opted to cut off his leg instead. He has to wear a prosthetic for life but they still broke up after the surgery since he couldn't trust her anymore.

Does this change House? Not at all. He's the exact same bastard just without the chronic pain because he has deep seated trust issues that fuel his behaviour and cynicism.

Bonus points for instead of a vicodin addiction, he turns to alcohol because he's ashamed of his prosthetic. He hates that he looks as broken as he feels on the inside. All the phantom limb pain act as a reminder of him putting his trust in someone he loved and she betrayed him, which also causes him to drink more.

I can't write fics so anyone can use this as inspo lol, was just a thought I had rewatching Three Stories.
