One thing I haven't seen many people touch on, excluding the idea he speaks Spanish only but that's not the same thing, is the possibility Jake CAN'T communicate with Marc or Steven. Like there's a significant possibility he hears them in his head, but they can't hear him back. That they don't actually notice him in the mirror. That Marc is so steeped in denial about Jake that he cannot perceive him.

Do you mean kind of like.. a mental block? Not so much a habitual thing, or anything he's even really conscious of. But something that his mind uses to cope because he's pushed Jake down so far, it's not possible to even really look anymore.

That is.. a horrifying idea, actually.
