This has honestly been really hard for me. Like a lot of people my age, I grew up with Harry Potter. I went to the book releases as a little kid, listened to the books on tape, and my mom sent me the last book when it came out and I was away at camp - I have the best memories with this series. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and as a human being, I hate what J.K. Rowling stands for. I hate all of the awful things she's said about the transgender community.
I will always love the series that I grew up with. Truthfully, I don't think I could ever turn my back on Harry Potter. It is such a huge part of my life, and it got me through so many extremely tough times in my life.
At the same time, I know that I'll never be able to look at J.K. Rowling the same again. I used to see her as an icon - she created a world that I wished I could be a part of. I honestly feel betrayed - why can't I just enjoy the books and movies that I love so much without thinking about hate, intolerance, and ignorance?
