Oh here's another question! Is there a reason Daisy chose the oversized hand she has for her replacement arm? Was it just what was available?
Good question! The short answer is that it’s what Daisy had available, the long answer is slightly more complicated and linked to Daisy’s backstory. I’m currently drawing some answers for different questions in my inbox, otherwise I’d draw something explaining this, but basically
Daisabelle is an outdated Audro-G3 hostess drone, installed on the Wellwisher to provide customer service
Unlike every other Audro model, Daisabelle accidentally developed a true artificial intelligence within her first few years of service
Daisabelle’s product line was fully decommissioned five years after her manufacture, making it extremely difficult (and expensive!) to source replacement parts for her. Technically the ship had other drones as well, but the parent company takes all the decommissioned drones whenever it updates the Wellwisher’s hardware, and Ol’ Joe is only able to hide so many compatible parts from the audit
Daisabelle was badly damaged in an accident roughly ten years prior to meeting Lee. Company policy technically considers her an appliance, so she would’ve been forcibly decommissioned if she was unable to meet basic workplace requirements. Since most of the damage was just cosmetic, Ol’ Joe prioritized helping Daisy assemble a makeshift arm to barely pass the requirements for custodial. It’s clunky and prone to breaking down, but it works
Daisy’s purchased a few replacement parts for herself over the years, but mostly cosmetic ones; she’s never bothered to replace her arm with a model that fits right. Could be cost, could be sentimental, could be she likes that it’s numb enough for carving doodles onto. Who knows?
Whenever she wants to have a fresh canvas for art, she always paints the replacement arm orange. orange was always the hardest color to find, anyway
