I know a lot of people are ignoring the Harry Potter TV show because of J.K. Rowling (understandable), but I checked out some behind-the-scenes pictures out of morbid curiosity and... my god, it looks so bad.

I don't know how to articulate it, but the cast all look like they're just cosplaying the Harry Potter characters. Like, this isn't Hagrid - it's Nick Frost dressed up as Hagrid for Halloween.

I guess one main thing HP has going for it is that the movies have a very iconic cast, I'd even go as far as to say they're perfectly cast, but then that's one main reason why there shouldn't be a remake anyway. You can't put aside Rowling's views when it comes to this series since HP isn't in public domain yet, but even if you put aside the ethical issues regarding being involved with this show, it's sad to say so many respected actors signing up for such an obvious cash-grab.

The worst part is that if it really sucks, all the review youtubers are gonna make videos like "I watched the Harry Potter remake so you don't have to!" and it's gonna give the show (and the Harry Potter IP) much more exposure than it would get if it's just mid.

I do not like and will not support new Harry Potter content but if I see anyone badmouthing those children it’s block on sight. The extent to which you can meaningfully fault a child actor for the franchise in which they were cast is zilch. Adult actors, we can hold to a higher standard but these children deserve no hate.

I still think that if they HAVE to make remake HP 🤢it should be a stylized musical. I don’t love musicals, but I feel like it has a Disney animated production vibe OR it should be remade as a Muppet musical. (EDIT: I know about the existing Very Potter musicals, but I mean like...animated movie or Muppet, y'all lol).

Which brings me to my question (which I have asked before on Instagram): if HP is a Muppet production, which HP characters are played by human actors, and which ones are played by Muppet actors?

The year is 2050, the earth is dying, but then a glimmer of hope appears...

Harry Potter remake.

Everyone is so excited but from the trailer we see Rupert Grint as dumbledore, Emma Watson as Mcgonagall and Tom Felton as Lucius Malfoy. For some strange reason Daniel Radcliffe is not in the trailer, it hurts but hey...

Then when it premiers it turns out that Radcliffe is playing Harry Potter... again, and Hermione and Ron are being played by 11 year olds.

Critics are giving it 5/5 for sticking to the books so well.

John Lithgow being cast in the remake that shall not be named feels like a particularly harsh betrayal. I'm never going to be able to enjoy Lord Farquad again.

I’m really stuck on this idea of Michelle Gomez as McGonagall in an HP remake though

Imagine her sassing Umbridge: “...by a COMPETENT teacher”

The biscuit thing: “....have a biscuit, Potter”

Lack of patience with Trelawney and her predictions: “you look in excellent health to me, Potter, so excuse me if I don’t let you out of the homework today. I assure you that if you die, you need not hand it in” AND “we’ll risk it, Sybill, now do sit down, the turkey’s getting cold”

“Potter, take Weasley with you. He looks far too happy over there.”

and of course the adorable: “I’ve always wanted to use that spell” *excited giggling*
