tight spot [souleater!hq]
this is a blurb for souleater!au haikyu because i am selfishly inspired, but also because @kodzukenskittten encouraged some because we both love Soul Eater (the anime)
context: Kita is written like Death the Kid and the Miya twins are his weapons. gn!reader's weapon is Kyoutani
warnings: none! this is sfw!
in which atsumu is your weapon for the day because kyoutani gets hurt during recon.
you felt like you’d been running from these mindless drones of Arachnae for what felt like hours. this mission—like almost every joint mission Lord Death sent you on—seemed to be going to shit as you felt your feet tingling beneath you. scythe—kyoutani—in hand, you trekked quickly behind Kita who had his twin pistols Atsumu and Osamu in hand as a means of protection and way clearance. you two had been bickering about how to locate the exit on this seemingly abandoned witch hideout, and of course, the two of you happened on the meeting of a few hundred agents of Arachnae. after a dutiful battle with the weaklings of the pack, your scythe had managed to get injured causing you and your meister friend (foe) to retreat.
why wouldn’t kita just lend you a twin pistol, you ask? after all, you could end these clowns if you had a weapon. well Kita is a very particular individual with an intricate way of soul capturing and battling keishin beings. Kita’s whole aesthetic is based around his OCD, and had it not been for the twins happening upon him, he would have been hopeless in his search for balanced weapons. Kita never used one pistol, always two, and he only took missions that resulted in an equal distribution of souls between his two beloved weapons. Atsumu and Osamu were the perfect pair of glocks of duplicate weight and design, so Kita used them dutifully and with ease. if he were to donate one to his frenemy for battle, things would not be symmetrical, and that would risk a full-blown panic attack. though, that may not be the worst thing possible in this situation. the last time Kita had a melt down, he had managed to blast Anubis to bits, leaving on the crumbled remains and an uneven amount of souls to be collected. after that incident, he felt so horrible that he swore to never allow asymmetry ever again.
now, as you rounded another corner that led down a dimly lit walkway, you wondered just how bad a Kita-the-kid level melt down might be. “Kid,” you rasped, feet feeling heavier with each stride forward. he gives you an absent-minded “huh?” as he spins around to fire at the minions making some progress behind you. “pistol. now.” you grunt, stamina wearing thin as you give him a look of angry desperation. he gives you a disgusted look, and just as your turn to swing your wounded scythe at your gaining enemies, he stops the hoverboard. your running frame collides with his static one, knocking him off the board and both of you fall to the ground with a clank. you sit up immediately, staring at him in disbelief; he matches your gaze. “you’re fucking joking,” you huff, reaching for a pistol in his hand and he selfishly tugs it away. the two of you have a quick wrestling fit before the twins have had enough, switching to human form to force the both of you apart.
atsumu corners you against the mildew-covered cement wall, staring down at you as Osamu does the same to Kita. the stare you share with him makes you feel small, and he grabs your hand while maintaining eye contact with you. you gasp as you can hear the footsteps of Arachnae’s army coming closer. “you better know how to use me,” he warns, giving you a wink before returning to weapon form. as your mind refocuses on the task at hand, you look up to see a disgrunted Kita, using both hands to grip one of his weapons. “you’re a brat,” he scoffs, and you stick your tongue out at him before scooping up your scythe and strapping him to your back. “ya ready, Kita,” you smile as the enemies come within your vision. he gives you a smirk before nodding, “as ready as i’ll ever be.”
