Over the course of Hakan's journey, he has found love within two people.
For many years, Hakan's life lacked a lot of self discovery and indulgence. The life of a teacher, a scholar, and a healer gives precious little time for personal space, even if it did help him hide just how lonely he was. It's easy to get married to your job when you have nobody else at home to greet you and then you go to work and suddenly you have all these people around you!
Becoming a warrior of light was the best and worst thing to happen to Hakan for many reasons. But most importantly if he never took that first step he never would have met Marsak. Polite, loyal, and determined, he impressed Hakan with great ease, and that feeling of respect grew into admiration and desire. Reclaiming Bozja didn't happen overnight, it happened through years of hard work and struggling to make it a reality, and over that time they began to know each other better more and more. Though it made Hakan's heart nearly burst waiting for the conflict to settle before they had a chance to truly discuss it, but what's love without a bit of ache? As they began sharing tents, bathing together, helping each other train as the conflict raged on, they found comfort and safety in one another, and one day as a skirmish broke out and Marsak valiantly defended Hakan from danger... that's when he knew he was going to propose once the dust settled.
But meeting someone new didn't just open Hakan's eyes to new possibilities, it opened his eyes to feelings that were there but he never understood. Thubyrgeim, an excellent arcanist and a delightful mentor whom he had worked with for years started to look different to him. Did she change her hair? No. A new outfit? Not really. Hakan recalled when he first submitted his leave of absence paperwork to join the Scions, and how heavy his heart weighed when he left the comforts of the classroom. At the time, he thought it was only the feelings of fear and apprehension of signing up for something dangerous, and that he'd miss his students. But after learning so many new things about himself, he realized that he missed her presence. They'd worked together for years, but he barely knew her at all, and as he came back it finally dawned on him that he wanted to know more about her. And to his joy, she did too.
General notes: Marsak and Thubyrgeim are aware of each other, and are fine with the sort of V their relationship with Hakan creates. Currently, in my headcanon Thubyrgeim isn't looking for marriage, but you don't need to get married just to pursue romance.
