Niall and his solo promo

So, I wanted to provide my personal perspective re: Niall’s promo, because I’ve been seeing a lot of people on my dash who’ve dealt with some nasty comments lately for expressing their opinion about Harry’s promo and why they might prefer how Niall is going about his solo career so far. It’s not right that people can’t express their opinion about the 1D guys’ solo careers, (but especially Harry’s for some reason), without certain bloggers going off and being truly awful to them about it.

My caveat is this is just one example in my RL that I can point to regarding this situation and I’m not delving into numbers/stats.

Starting last Fall, my friend, (who only knew about 1D in the most casual way and that I, and a couple of her other friends, were fans), saw Niall on the LLS. I remember her contacting me to get more info about the “funny, charming Irish guy from 1D”. She had loved his interview and performance so much, that she wanted to find other interviews/performances of his to watch ASAP.

Fast-forward to the next stage of Niall’s promo recently and my friend is asking me about his new single, (which I then set up in a Spotify playlist for her and she’s been listening to “Slow Hands” nonstop ever since), and wanting to know when his album will be out. She tells me that she hears “This Town” all the time in various stores and bars around town. She’s catching up with his Tonight Show performance at the moment. She’s also going to look up the videos of him performing at One Love Manchester. All of this is based on her reacting well to his personality in interviews/shows and his talent. Niall’s music isn’t even her usual fare- Brand New, Jimmy Eat World, and other related groups are her faves - with vinyl being her usual method of buying music.

Niall’s promo works for my friend, (who was never a 1D fan), and she finds his image very relatable. I’ve also seen this in a more general sense with a few other people in my life.

The funny thing is that Louis has always been my favorite, (and I can’t wait for his album), but I’ve also really come to appreciate Niall because of the way he’s been handling his solo stuff so far. It’s not about numbers for me or my friend and I can see how the “slow burn” approach works best for Niall. And as a Louis fan, I’m hoping his promo will reflect what works best for him too.

Not really sure how to wrap this up, except to say that I do believe that, whether some bloggers like it or not, Niall is being properly exposed to the GP, while still holding on to his 1D fans. I don’t understand why that’s considered a bad thing for any of the guys to have both aspects as part of their respective promo.
