Today's theme for @look-back-month-challenge is "craft". I can't think of any doll that I relate to crafting more than Dianthe, aka Franken-Deer.

I cobbled her together out of an HTT Bambee head, a Resinsoul body, legs from a completely different Resinsoul body, ears from a defunct seller, and lots and lots of mods. She was sanded, epoxied, sanded some more, dyed, and finally strung together. Today, she's gone from a pile of disparate parts to a doll just needing a faceup. She isn't perfect, far from it, but she's a labor of love, and I both learned a lot and had a lot of fun working on her.

my minifee head is still MIA, but I did get some eyes in from Chronic Art Dolls on etsy. some for franken-deer, some for dragon boy, and a couple other pairs you'll see in the future. it's hard to capture in photos but the blue ones sparkle.

chocolate doll soup. franken-deer is now dyed! the result isn’t perfect- there’s a lot of streaking and marbling- but it’s done, and that’s more than can be said about a lot of my projects. excited to put her back together tomorrow!

double post today: franken-deer has a wig! not sure if this is her final one, but it turned out pretty good so I’ll be keeping it regardless. finally her ears don’t look so out of place! next step: eyes.

just some details of the dye job. her headcap is the color I was originally going for, but when her head came out super streaky I just went for something darker but equally pretty. the second pic shows some, er, unfortunate findings as a result of the dye: she had some leftover hot glue sueding (the green stuff) I hadn’t noticed. finally some closeups of the spotting on her torso/arms and the way her face took the dye differently. I don’t mind these details, I think they work.

more work! added material to the neck hole to help the head fit on the body, did a total resculpt of the hooves, redid the dew claws, and added some fur details. the ones around the ankles are probably going to need to be redone, I don’t like them so much. the left hoof also needs a bit more work. the little thing in the middle of the first pic is a new teeth part for her mouth.

but I got her all together and everything still fits. she only stood for about thirty seconds, but she didn’t fall in half. it’s a start. also, her hooves can move more now, so she can point her toes.

all together! now that she’s all dried off and assembled, you can see more unevenness in the dye job, but I did the parts in pairs so that at least each side matches. and I love how the fur on her legs came out! it looks so much better when it’s all close to the same color lol.

last night’s progress!

I added an extension inside the torso to keep the chest from falling in half (a bad habit she had before) and added some shape to the back of her hip joints to help her stand upright. I gave her some dewclaws on her ankles (they won’t look like this in the end, I have to put fur on), and then I added her new ear bases over where I sanded off her ears. The bases will be painted eventually to blend in, but she’ll have long hair and I wanted the ears to poke out and be mobile.
