What kind of grandparents would Hiccup and Astrid be? Give us elderly hiccstrid headcanons.
Hey there! I finally managed to get around to answering this (sorry, life’s been crazy.)
Gosh, they would be really awesome grandparents and will love those kids to death.
Hiccup would be the one that would sit the kids on his knee and tell them story after story after story. He’d tell them stories about adventures and about the dragons…really anything to get their imagination going. He’d show them pieces of their past, making sure they never forget where they came from and the dragons that went along with it.
Astrid would also tell them stories (they’d tell them stories together a lot too), but she’d tell them funny stories about Zephyr and Nuffink when they were kids. Stories that they themselves groan about but their kids think it’s hysterical. She’d also tell funny stories about Hiccup, making sure they know just how much of a dork their grandfather is underneath that beard of his.
They’d both teach them all sorts of things. Hiccup would teach them how to draw or make stuff in the forge (where he still spends a lot of time). Astrid, who is still just as much of a badass, makes sure they know how to defend themselves during a fight and the correct way to hold a sword.
They brag about their grandkids and show them off to the whole island all the time.
Their grandkids totally idolize them too. They look up to their awesome grandparents who teach them cool things and tell them cool stories (even things their parents don’t want them to know or do but what happens at grandma and grandpas stays at grandma and grandpas…sometimes…)
I also really love thinking about elderly hiccstrid. I don’t have a ton of headcanons but I have some.
They still hold hands, kiss all the time, still bicker and tease, and are just as much in love as they were when they were younger.
They get a little more free time to spend together - just the two of them - a lot more now, which they love and enjoy every second of.
They do small things like help one another put on and take off their furs at the beginning/end of the day because tasks like that are a little more difficult than they used to be. They help one another. Support one another. Take care of one another. Just like they always used to. None of that has changed.
Once Zephyr has taken over as Chief, they are both so supportive and help her in any way they can. They are there for her when she struggles or doesn’t know what to do. This is important for Hiccup to be that role for her since his own father wasn’t around to help him through it in the way that he can be for his own daughter. And Astrid is there as well to help and give advice or just yell at someone when they’ve done something wrong or something that she saw before her daughter did.
The entire family is supportive and helps one another through it all because they are all so close. They take care of one another. And I really love this family so much. <3
