[Need to Know] 84% of You Can't Go Without This. Multitasking Makes You Stupid. Most Valuable Tweet.
The state of Vermont has been forging ahead into uncharted waters with their social media strategy, specifically the state's Twitter account for tourism (@ThisIsVT). For the past four weeks, they've been letting their citizens do the tweeting, hoping to create great, organic conversation between residents and tourists about travel to the Green Mountain State. So far, so good. The stipulation for tweeting: "Don't tweet something that you wouldn't feel comfortable telling your neighbor's twelve year old child or your great-grandma."
Maddie Grant, a partner at the social media consulting firm SocialFish, says one tweet from a CEO is worth 100 tweets from other staffers and employees. While there's no scientific study behind this, it's certainly thought-provoking. If you're trying to boost engagement in your social channels, adding a few posts from your CEO might be a good tactic to add to the mix.
A poll on Mashable is asking readers if Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg should step aside as CEO and let a more seasoned executive take the reins, now that they're a publicly traded company with thousands of outside investors to answer to. The poll is a response to this piece in the LA Times begging the question: "Is Mark Zuckerberg in over his hoodie as Facebook CEO?" after Facebook's stock hit a new record low - $18.75/share - this week. Manhattan's District Attorney, Cyrus Vance, has fought for (and won) a $4.2 million cyber-crime lab for the city, saying that cyber crimes have risen 50% in the last five years. Their goal: "In this day and age, we need to be as sophisticated as criminals are," he says. Correct me if I'm wrong, Mr. Vance, but shouldn't you aim to be MORE sophisticated if you're going to catch them?
Best Buy has a new CEO. Hubert Joly (France) will take the wheel next month, provided he can get his Visa approved. Yes, really.
