You walked down the empty halls that led to Slughorn’s party, heels clicking on the stone floor as you rounded a corner; it was a bit chilly out, the winds of December making their way inside the castle despite the multiple heating charms that had been cast over the years. You’d always been good at potions, so the invitation hadn’t come as much of a surprise to you - it also helped that blood status was still something that was of importance, even if you didn’t necessarily like it - but the party hadn’t ever been your first choice; you knew it would help down the line if you gained the favor of a professor or two while you were in school, so here you were.
A head of ashy blonde hair appeared after you entered the long stretch of the corridor - the party lights glimmering up ahead and lanterns lighting the otherwise dark hallway - and the Hufflepuff you’d brought as your date turned to face you. You smiled lightly at Jimin as he held out his arm for you to take,
“You look lovely, Y/N.” His voice was soft and his eyes were upturned into their signature crescents, “A bit like you’re dressed for a funeral, but lovely nonetheless.” Laughing lightly at his words, you picked up a portion of your dress, black fabric pouring down in waves from the corset-like bodice, and began to walk in step with the other sixth year,
“Of course I do, I couldn’t show up looking as if I’d rolled around in a pig pen.” The Hufflepuff laughed quietly next to you as you spoke, “I can’t even imagine the impression that would give of Slytherin house.” There was a bit of silence as you walked towards the party together, but neither of you really minded; you’d known Jimin for ages and found comfort in the silences the pair of you shared.
“I’m honestly a bit surprised you didn’t ask Yoongi.” Jimin glanced at you as the pair of you neared the entrance and you glanced downwards briefly, “The two of you do have a thing, don’t you?” You hummed, tucking a bit of hair behind your ear,
“He had to head home early for the holidays: family stuff.” You could feel Jimin’s eyes on the side of your head, gaze flooded with a mixture of concern and pity, and you coughed lightly to diffuse the silence that had gathered.
Jimin stopped abruptly in front of the open door, amber glow illuminating the left side of his face as he looked at you with furrowed brows. You sighed and placed your hand on the arm that wasn’t holding your elbow, smiling lightly,
“I promise that everything’s okay Jimin,” he stared at you for a moment, eyes searching your face for any sign that you were lying, before nodding briefly, “you know I’d tell you if it wasn’t.” He hummed, gaze briefly wandering towards the noise coming from inside the party in full swing,
“I just worry, Y/N.” You smiled gently at the Hufflepuff, gaze soft,
“I know you do.” Things were silent for a moment before you spoke again, “Now,” you reached to straighten his bow tie and brush down his dress robes, “let’s go enjoy a night with the worst bloody professor I’ve ever had for potions.” Wrapping your arm around Jimin’s, you pulled him lightly towards Slughorn’s Christmas party, a smile gracing both of your faces as you headed into the warm light.
