fifth- seventh year draco headcannons

- he did truely believe that pure bloods were superior- it was all that he was told growing up

- he imitated his fathers mannerisms in an attempt to win his affection

- he first began to question his beliefs when his cedric died, but voldemort had already begun his occupation of the manor

- he stayed up all night studying for his owls because he was scared of what would happen if he slept

- he had no choice but to take the dark mark for his and his families safety

- he wanted to accept dumbledore’s offer to help him, but knew that he had to repair the cabinet to keep his mother safe

- every choice he made was for the good of his family

- when his attempts to fix the vanishing cabinet continued to fail draco started having panic attacks, and completely withdrew from his friends

- he quit quidditch and and left prefect duties to pansy

- he lost weight and barely slept

- he had nightmares where he watched pansy, blaise and his mother be tortured

- he had dreams where harry rescued him

- when harry confronted him in the bathroom, he thought he was going to offer to help him

- the sectumsempra curse left him with four thin scars from his chin to his hips

- he hid the scars from his friends and family using glamours

- he didn’t want dumbledore dead

- he stalled on the astronomy tour in the hopes that dumbledore would flee

- draco bought food to luna, dean and ollivander while they were in the dungeons

- he also distracted other death eaters who were headed to the dungeons, often putting himself in danger

- he was punished for his inability to crucio classmates

- he knew it was harry in the manor immediately

- he tried to save crabbe and goyle from the fire but only managed to help goyle

- for a second he didn’t want to be saved

- he found it hard to let go of harry once they escaped the room

- he spent much of the final battle searching for his mother

- he fought against the death eaters when they attacked his classmates

- luna grabbed his hand when hagrid arrived with harry’s body

- HE. THREW. HARRY. HIS. WAND !!!!!!

As a QiFL and Hufflepup fan, I have to say I'm SO EXCITED. I'm not lying when I say I check at least once every day to see if you've updated, and knowing you're so far along in the writing is a real boost.

Seriously, your writing is magical. It's a little refuge from chaotic and noisy life. Thank you so much. Know that you have the full support of your followers.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much. I am making progress. I wish I were faster. And you don't have to check every day! I can drop another tiny sneak peek when I send the draft off to @honeydukesheroine to beta read. That's usually about week before I post, depending on how many fixes I need to make. And thank you sooooooo much for the encouragement - getting a salty or borderline abusive review is never fun. It sucks the joy out of the fandom experience and makes it that much harder to show up and write the next chapter. I have a hard enough time with my inner critic - no one needs to feed or embolden her. She's rabid. My consolation is +95% of my personal favorite writers - skilled at characterization and deft with conflict and tension, the writers I'm excited about and read over and over again - get a salty, rude, unhinged review now and then. I try to remind myself I'm in excellent company. ❤️

Hiya, I just wanted to say how much I love this crazy little story you wrote. It’s sits somewhere between earnestly touching and honest-to-god belly-laughing and I don’t think I’ve had that anywhere else! Please, don’t feel any pressure to answer, but is there any way to know what the status of chapter three is at the moment?

Forgive me for breaking out your comment @woefullyunprepared1 - you're not the only one who has nudged me and I want to THANK YOU for doing so in the nicest way!

Hufflepup is my side project and I've been neglecting it while I wrestle with the other one. However, about a month ago I did a reread and I've been dividing my writing time between the two projects since then. Hufflepup writing is slow but steady, working toward a complete skeletal draft while I am buried with edits and structural issues on Quidditch is for Losers.

In the spirit of Hpup Ch 3 transparency: I've written just shy of 5000 words. My Hpup drafts have run around 10K which I shave to 8-9K during edits. I've got the beginning, I've got the end. I've got some stepping stones of the middle, but not a paved road - mostly snippets and jokes and a few beats. I have NO idea how close I am to knocking that out - but I can tell you it's no longer on the back burner.

The good news is, yes, I'm writing. The less-than-good-news for Hufflepup readers is I'm trying to finish Ginny's current character arc in Quidditch is for Losers before I focus fulltime on Hufflepup. Hufflepup Ch 3 does have a skeletal draft at this point (yay, I know what happens) but it's going to need a couple more drafts before I'm happy with it.

The bottleneck right now is one…damn…scene. One scene in QifL. I've been wrestling with ONE scene. The rest of her arc chapters are in good shape and will wrap with Ch 23 - and those chapters are insanely fun for me so I expect they will be posted quickly.

Once I get through that... One Damn Scene.

I know - that's sooooo not what Hufflepup readers want to hear. I realize my two WIPs have entirely different reader sets (who knew people who love manic high comedy aren't the same people willing to devote hours to a female-centric, pre-romance, character-driven, sometimes-depressing-how-Ginny-gets-her-groove-back piece, right?) but please be patient with me. I haven't remotely lost interest in writing. Somedays are harder to show up at the page than others, but I will get there.
