Huan wiped his brow as he looked down at his latest creation. Never had a piece of art caused Huan so much stress as the small object in front of him.

The band had been the easy part, even the engraving which was an overly complex image of a dragon circled around a badgermole. Metalbending came as natural as breathing to Huan and was his preferred method of sculpting. Something so small and delicate simply took time.

It was the centerpiece of the band that proved his downfall. While Huan preferred metalbending, his boyfriend Mako had taken up glassblowing in his spare time. The craft had proved difficult the few times Huan had joined him as molten earth wasn't something either of them were particularly skilled at bending.

Mako seemed to like the headache and took pride in his creations which was something Huan easily understood. Huan usually left him to it as anything that could get Mako expressing his thoughts and emotions was a good thing in Huan's book.

He had wanted to make the ring special for Mako and as he looked down at the misshapen blob he wondered if maybe he should have just gone with a gemstone or one of his mother's meteorite pieces.

The door to his and Mako's shared workshop opened and Huan was quick to cover his failed glass monstrosity.

"Hey," Mako said, walking into the room with two bags in hand. They read Narnook's on the side which meant his boyfriend had likely gone to Air Temple Island before heading home. "I got dinner."

"You're home early," Huan said. Mako typically worked late so the fact that he had gone to visit Korra, stopped for dinner and made it home early was suspicious.

"And you're on fire!" Mako shouted. He dropped the bags on the workbench before moving towards Huan.

Huan dodged to the side as he suddenly registered the heat at his back. The glass inset hadn't cooled enough when Huan tossed the rag over it.

Mako cooled the fire quickly before lifting the rag. Huan wasn't fast enough to stop him before he revealed the ring band and distorted glass blob.

Mako looked at it for a moment and Huan could see the detective's brain working through the clues.

"Huan," Mako said, glancing up at him.

"How do you blow glass?" Huan said. "It's a very touchy medium."

"Huan," Mako repeated, putting the rag down and walking towards Huan. "Yes."

Huan sagged against the table behind him. "I'm going to finish it and ask you," Huan said, crossing his arms, even as Mako wrapped him in a hug.

"Yes," Mako repeated, kissing his cheek, "but if you're serious I can help you."

Huan paused and glanced over Mako's shoulder at the disaster of an engagement ring. "Yes," Huan said, finally loosening enough to hug Mako back.

Mako’s Lovers Series

So, with this series now complete, I’ve made a small little masterlist for it.

I had fun exploring various relationships and characters through Mako and I hope I added some meaningful boosts to a fair few Mako rare pairs.

Mako hated the White Falls Wolfbats, in fact all the Fire Ferrets did, but Mako’s reason was a bit more…personal.

Mako becomes slightly obsessed about Huan's new sculpture, unware of who the muse is.

Mako's soul mark is apparently more common than he thought. It takes him a few times to get it right.

Mako still wasn’t sure about being in Ba Sing Se. While it was nice to no longer live on the streets, Mako missed the city he grew up in. One day Bolin convinces him and Tu to sneak up into the Upper Ring where Mako has a run in with some noble brat.

Little did Mako know, that exchange, and a college scholarship, would change his life in the best way possible.

A Chance Encounter - Mako / Izumi’s Daughter (Ursa II)

When Korra drags the group to the Fire Nation for a festival, Mako gets separated. Luckily he's found by the prettiest woman in the Fire Nation.

Truth Wills Out - Mako / Asami

Mako contemplates while in prison. He comes to a conclusion he should have realized a while ago.

He and Asami did make more sense, and he was an idiot.

Smoothies, Tea and Coffee - Mako / Wu / Iroh II

In quiet moments, Mako sometimes contemplates on the men he fell in love with. He comes to some interesting conclusions sometimes and falls even more in love with them.

The Other Firebender - Mako / Asami / Iroh II

Mako's insecurities grow as it appears that Asami and Iroh II are getting closer. Fearful that he's losing his girlfriend, Mako doesn't realize he's growing closer to the General too.

Picking Sides - Mako / Korra

When the argument over Mako reporting Korra to Raiko escalates, Mako picks a side, and Korra does the same.

The Other Brother - Mako / Wing Beifong

When Bolin invites his new boyfriend and their twin to stay with them, Mako finds himself developing a slight crush on the other brother.

Ice Prince - Mako / Desna

When Mako followed Korra to the Southern Water Tribe for a spiritual festival, he hadn't expected the chaos to follow.

The Water Tribe Civil War was building quickly, but at least the events had also brought him Desna.

Shifting Winds - Mako / Opal

A precious stone that was normal at first glance, but iridescent in the right lighting. Something told Mako that Opal, the person, would be the same.

Mako met Opal at the wrong time in his life. He was glad that didn't seem to stop them.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work - Mako / Hasook

Mako puts a lot of effort into making the Fire Ferrets a well oiled machine but pushing too hard may cost him his relationship.

Can he make it up to Hasook or will be be left floating in the drink?

Platonic - AroAce Mako

Mako comes to better understand his friend's love for him after a reporter starts writing article after article about him in the papers over who he's dating.

Huan had dreams to fulfil. Mako's whole life revolved around his brother. Both their families were planning on arranging their marriage to a random stranger. They both needed change. They needed freedom Their only option? Running away.

Aka an arranged marriage AU that turns into an elopement.
